Position Summary:

The Executive Director of Operations is a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet and the school district’s executive leadership team, overseeing and directing all operational functions supporting student learning and district efficiency. This role ensures safe, efficient, and effective management of non-instructional services, including facilities, transportation, food services, maintenance, security, and capital projects. The Executive Director collaborates closely with school leaders, district administrators, and external stakeholders to align operational goals with the district’s strategic plan.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategic Planning Provide strategic direction and leadership for all operational departments.
Collaborate with the Superintendent and executive team to align operational functions with district goals.
Evaluate operational effectiveness and recommend policy or procedural improvements. Facilities and Maintenance Oversee facility planning, construction, renovation, and maintenance.
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
Develop long-range capital improvement plans and manage bond and construction projects. Transportation Services Supervise student transportation services, including fleet management and routing logistics.
Ensure compliance with state and federal transportation regulations.
Monitor vendor contracts and service level agreements. Food and Nutrition Services Oversee school nutrition programs to ensure compliance with federal USDA guidelines.
Support initiatives that promote healthy eating and efficient meal services.
Manage food services budgets and procurement. Safety and Security Lead initiatives to ensure school safety, including emergency preparedness and security systems.
Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency responders on district-wide safety plans. Budget and Compliance Develop and monitor budgets for operational departments.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Identify cost-saving strategies while maintaining service quality.

Qualifications:
Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in operations or facilities management, preferably in an educational or public sector setting.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred:

Master’s degree in a related field.
Experience managing large teams and multimillion-dollar budgets.
Familiarity with school district operations, including applicable local, state, and federal laws.

Work Environment:

Primarily office-based with frequent site visits to schools and facilities.
May require evening or weekend work to attend board meetings or respond to emergencies.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 70% sitting, 10% walking, and 20% standing.

EVALUATION

The Assistant Superintendent will evaluate the performance of this position and its responsibilities at least annually, in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s evaluation policies.
