BASIC SUMMARY
Oversee pathology laboratory operations, manage scientific staff, and ensure quality and integrity of pathology deliverables and data. This strategic role will report to the Vice President of Pathology and provide management leadership across all pathology laboratory functions (including Necropsy, Histology, Clinical Pathology, Immunostaining, SEM and Confocal microscopy, and other imaging modalities). The individual is responsible for ensuring CBSET maintains its outstanding and cutting-edge services and delivers high quality results, and will play a leadership role in setting plans for strategic growth of the business. Key management oversight responsibilities in this role include: laboratory operations and workflow, compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), and hiring, management and training oversight of pathology laboratory technical staff. Advanced degree and expertise in the field of histology/histopathology/pathology in clinical and/or preclinical labs is desirable, and minimum of 5 years of successful management and business leadership. Excellence in communication skills, professionalism, and team building a must.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee pathology data generation practices, pathology assessments, and data presentation.
- Ensure quality control and regulatory compliance of pathology data.
- Directly oversee Pathology Managers and Supervisors, with indirect oversight of technical and scientific staff.
- Strategically align laboratory operations to optimally meet workflow needs and achieve short- and long-term plans.
- Troubleshoot workflow, personnel and technical problems and proactively implement solutions to resolve them.
- Represent the company through company interactions, professional organizations and publications.
- Work interdepartmentally with other directors and staff to maintain and improve processes and consistency and meet internal timelines.
- Maintain and expand client relationships.
- Manage technical requests and inquiries from other CBSET groups and from external sponsors, and provide expertise to resolve technical issues as they arise.
- Identify current and future growth areas for histopathology, clinical pathology, SEM, and imaging businesses.
- Develop staffing plans and laboratory department budgets to support strategic growth.
- Determine laboratory designs, key equipment purchases, and capital investments to enable growth targets.
- Foster effective communication between Pathology groups, with other key CBSET groups and external clients/ collaborators.
- Ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards, including in laboratory operations, safety, record-keeping and archiving, and with departmental policies, SOPs, and protocols.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
M.S. or Ph.D. degree. Exceptional experience in a related field could substitute for the education requirement.
Experience:
Minimum 4 years experience in associated pathology field
Certification/Licensure:
Driver’s license

Demonstrate familiarity with aspects of management.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to perform laboratory procedures, which require, talking, hearing, standing or sitting for long periods of time, entering data into a computer, using appropriate instruments, reaching with hands and arms, working in narrow spaces, and wearing safety equipment (PPE) according to OSHA regulations and company standards. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
