Description
The Brookhaven Area Manager is a key leadership position and is a part of the MSLA Timberlands Lead Team in Weyerhaeuser’s Southern Timberlands Business. As Area Manager, you will lead timberlands operations in the Brookhaven Area of Southwest Mississippi, comprised of approximately 385,000 acres. Coverage over this area will include business travel mostly within the MSLA Region but will require an occasional overnight stay. The Area Manager role is located out of our Timberlands office in Brookhaven, MS and reports to the MSLA Region Manager.
In addition, you will participate in the formation and execution of the roadmap strategies for the region that are aligned with the company direction. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual with a passion for leading people, innovating opportunities to create and extract value, and participating in teams committed to achieving Weyerhaeuser’s vision and goals.
Key Functions:
Responsibility for the Brookhaven Area P&L and forecasting
Collaboration and ultimate responsibility for cross-function checks and balances
Ensure a safe work environment and that the area team is operating in alignment with accepted business policies
Monitor and establish area short-term production rate targets for contract operations to ensure delivery of plan in alignment with functional strategies
Ensure excellence in all harvesting and silviculture contract operations
Meeting customer commitments
Lead and develop a team of Harvest Managers, Silviculture Foresters and Wood Flow Managers
Collaborate across region, area and business lines
Support functional leads to meet company goals
Leader of the area as well as participation in leadership of the MSLA region. This includes organizational structure, workload alignment, and change management.
Development, replication, and execution of business best practices
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Forestry or related degree + 8 years’ experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience
At least 5 years of people leadership experience, including performance management (7 years or more preferred)
Must be willing to live within the operating area
Experience in directing the implementation of business plans
Environmental and safety champion
Able and willing to develop, communicate and deploy strategic vision and short and long-term plans
Desire to inspire and lead a diverse team of people to achieve and exceed expectations
Proven ability to successfully lead initiatives that maximize shareholder value
Ability to work across organizational/functional boundaries effectively
Excellent communication, time management and selling/negotiation skills
Excellent computer skills, including forest management systems and Microsoft Office
Understanding of and commitment to meeting customer value delivery expectations
Compensation:
This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $117,328 – $176,132 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 20% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement:
Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan, which includes a paid company match in addition to our annual contribution equal to 5% of your base salary.
Paid Time Off or Vacation:
We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3 weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use.
