Job Description
Director of Operations/General Manager Lovill House Inn 404 Old Bristol Road, Boone, NC 28607 The Lovill House Inn is the #1 rated Bed and Breakfast in Boone, NC. It has a focus on sustainability and has received multiple awards including the highest rating from the NC Green Travel Association. We have 6 guest suites in the main house, a guest cabin with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath, and a historic barn venue for events. This unique and historic property is located on 11 acres just a few minutes walk from downtown Boone and the ASU campus. Our current general manager is transitioning to a part time role and the owner is looking for a full time director of operations/general manager that is dependable, has management experience with hospitality, administration, staffing, scheduling, and preferably experience running a bed and breakfast or boutique hotel. The candidate should have good communication skills, a can do attitude, well organized, a hard worker themselves, and work well with the owners and staff members. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Managing staff: Scheduling, assigning responsibilities and ensuring completion. Assisting with management of staff costs to be in line with Inn bookings.
- Planning, cooking & serving an organic breakfast
- Ordering and managing household supplies
- Ensure the common areas in the main house, the individual guest suites and the cabin are cleaned to the highest standards.
- Answering calls, working with a reservation system, securing guest reservations, promoting the business both online and in the local community. Be on call on off hours should an emergency situation arise at the Inn.
- Anticipating guests needs, house needs, staff needs and addressing them.
- Identify and ensure all general maintenance both inside and outside on the facilities, gardens is done on a regular basis.
- Manage staff and sub-contractors to ensure the property is running optimally.
- Regular communication and reporting to the owner.
Candidates must have good references, be extremely detail oriented, able to adjust and keep calm in changing situations.
Ideal Candidates should:
- Have prior hospitality experience: office management, executive assistant, restaurant, hotel, or event planning.
- Be efficient, hardworking, responsible, organized, and able to multi-task without being overwhelmed.
- Be kind, warm, friendly, and trustworthy. The candidate should not get easily offended by guests with different opinions.
- Be handy and able to “fix” issues with the facilities, grounds, or guest experience as quickly and inexpensively as possible.
- Fluent in Microsoft word, excel and email
- Live in close proximity to the property (Preferably in Boone)
- Willing to work weekends and holidays and take alternate days off during the week Familiarity with graphic design, online marketing through facebook, instagram and google.
The position will be on a salary in addition to receiving a share of gratuities, and have the opportunity to participate in the companies’ health insurance program. Housing is not included and the candidate should live less than 30 minutes from the Lovill House inn. This is a year round position.
