Director of Operations Description:

Me2 (“me, too”): Me2 is the world’s only classical musicanization created for individuals living with mental illness and the people who support them. Our mission is to erase the stigma surrounding mental illness through supportive rehearsals and inspiring performances. Approximately half of our musicians are living with a mental illness such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, trauma, OCD or addiction. Me2/ is based in Boston, MA and currently hosts orchestral and instrumental programs in three states: MA, VT and NH. Job Description The Director of Operations will report directly to the Executive Director of the Me2anization, Caroline Whiddon. The Director of Operations must reside in the greater Boston area. This position covers weekly operations for Me2’s Orchestra and Chorus based in Boston, as well as occasional support for the Flute Choir. Must be available for rehearsals on Monday and Wednesday evenings between 6-9:30 pm. Position starts on August 1, 2025.

Rehearsals:
  • Attend and oversee all rehearsals, including orchestra and chorus rehearsals on two week nights (7-9 pm).
  • Set up and tear down equipment (chairs, stands, etc); post Stigma-Free Zone signage, and make announcements as needed.
  • Develop and maintain rehearsal schedules for two Boston-based Me2 ensembles. Update schedules as necessary.
  • Work with conductors to develop seating charts and part assignments.
  • Identify rehearsal venues as needed and maintainmunication with vendors/owners. Coordinate all details including scheduling, parking and adnce to venue policies.
  • Maintain updated contact information for musicians and publish member directories.
  • Maintain regularmunications with musicians, responding to their inquiries and ensuring that everyone has the information needed on a weekly basis.
  • Oversee equipment and instruments, including proper storage and insurance coverage.
  • Be vigilant in monitoring the rehearsal environment and individual musicians, ensuring that our musicians’ emotional wellness is a priority. All Me2 activities take place within a Stigma-Free Zone.
  • Follow-up each week with musicians who are absent.
Performances:
  • Attend all performances for two Boston-based ensembles (orchestra and chorus).
  • Secure venues for all performances and ensure appropriate schedules, insurance coverage, and equipment needs are met.
  • Coordinate transportation for musicians if needed, as well as all equipment and large instruments, such as timpani.
  • Coordinate all artistic on-site logistics (green room, Conductors’ dressing rooms, etc).
  • Speak to audience members from the stage, if needed.
Music Library:
  • Order, prepare and distribute music for all ensembles. For orchestra, coordinate bowing sessions with the Music Director and string principals and ensure all pieces are appropriately marked before distribution.
  • Maintain the music library in the Me2 office.
  • Renew annual music licensing and send reports to BMI and ASCAP.
Marketing & Administration:
  • Actively recruit new musicians through flyers, social media, email, etc.
  • Take photos of orchestra and chorus rehearsals and performances.
  • Act as amunity ambassador of Me2/, actively pursuing partnerships with missionpatibleanizations and seeking new venues for performances.
  • Identify new partnerships that will diversify our musicians and audience members.

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must have a background in classical music, although a degree is not required. Music library skills are vital, including the ability to accurately transfer string bowings and markings. We are seeking a deeply empathetic individual who will easily connect with our musicians from all walks of life. Personal experience with mental illness will be viewed as an asset.
