- $11,393 permonth (Non-Bargaining Pay Plan, D64 Step 1-13)
Hiring Range:
$8,983
- $9,533 per month (Non-Bargaining Pay Plan, D64 Step 1-4 DOQ)
JobClosing Date:
July 3, 2025 There is one Senior Manager II openingwith the Yakima County Public Services, Solid Waste Division. Thisposition manages, directs, supervises the daily operations of twomunicipal solid waste landfills and two transfer stations, alongwith all the equipment necessary to operate each location. Overseesthe proper disposal of all solid waste, heavily involved inconstruction and long term planning, and ensures compliance withgoverning agencies. Often makes critical decisions involving wastedisposal, construction, operations, and employee issues. Is on callto respond to emergencies involving the landfills/transfer stations(24 hours a day-seven days per week), such as wildfires, alarmresponse, facility fires, inclement weather conditions, andequipment issues. Oversees the monitoring of gas probe wells, andthe gas collection and control systems, the passive vents, and thesoil vapor extraction system. Delegates duties and tasks, andadvises a variety of Solid Waste managers and supervisors. Informsthe ER&R Manager of equipment feature requirements and tracksthe equipment status for replacement. Education & Experience:
Associate’sdegree or technical school degree in construction, environmentalsciences, heavy equipment, mechanic or other related field andEight (8) years of landfill operations experience including threeyears at the supervisory level OR an equivalent combination ofeducation and experiences which provides knowledge, skills, andabilities to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Current copy of the driving record is required prior toemployment. Successful completion of a general employmentverification. Successful completion of general employmentverification and pre-employment DOT Drug Testing Consent forqueries of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse to comply with Federal Regulations(49 CFR Part 382). SWANA Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO)certificate (or ability to obtain in 1 year) SWANA Manager ofTransfer Station Operations certificate (or ability to obtain in 2years) 40 Hour Hazwoper certificate (or ability to obtain in 1year)
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences,construction, or related field and Six (6) years of relevantexperience including three years of supervisory experienceApplicable solid waste management experience Opacity certificateFirst Aid Training Proficient at operating heavy equipment, D9,scraper, excavator, etc Mechanics Technical Certificate orequivalent experience/training Environmental Science Degree ValidState of Washington Driver’s License with CDL class A endorsement(
