Our medical Device Manufacturing client is currently seeking a Operations Director for their facility in Pittsburgh PA. They need someone who is a strong leader with 5-7 years as a high level manager or director in a smaller manufacturing company. Primary Responsibilities Champion a culture rooted in professionalism, accountability, quality, and alignment with core company values. Direct all aspects of material and product handling, including receiving, inspection, storage, and distribution. Oversee daily operations related to production planning, assembly, testing, packaging, procurement, and shipping, ensuring compliance with quality standards. Maintain high standards for product quality, equipment functionality, and team performance; implement cost-effective technologies to enhance production efficiency. Protect company assets and recommend strategic equipment purchases and facility upgrades. Lead the daily operations of the Service & Calibration departments, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures. Manage Service Centers, focusing on partner onboarding, training, quality assurance, and operational effectiveness. Provide strategic guidance to Executive Management on safety, security, employee relations, scheduling, training, and conflict resolution. Develop, track, and report key performance indicators across all operational functions. Collaborate with the property manager to resolve facility-related issues. Take ownership of special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned.
Team Management:
Production, Calibration & Service Partner with HR and Executive Management in recruitment, hiring, and performance evaluations. Facilitate training programs and support ongoing professional development initiatives. Supervise team members, manage attendance, and approve time-off requests through the ADP system. Secondary Responsibilities Serve as a backup for all direct report roles to ensure continuity of operations. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, or a related technical discipline. Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in operations management or strategic leadership roles. Proven supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, including production scheduling and shop floor operations. (Experience in the medical device industry is a plus.) Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficient in ERP/CRM systems (e.g., Syteline), with a solid understanding of workplace safety standards, OSHA regulations, and
ISO 9001
testing protocols. Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and other Windows-based applications. Strong technical writing and documentation capabilities, preferably within a regulated industry. Excellent communication skills-verbal, written, and interpersonal-with the ability to build effective relationships across all levels of the organization. Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality. Strategic thinker with sound business judgment and the ability to make independent decisions. Effective leadership skills with a focus on team motivation, coaching, and development in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment. Self-motivated and accountable, with strong initiative and follow-through. Excellent time management skills and flexibility to travel or work extended hours as needed to meet project deadlines. Committed to delivering high-quality results, ensuring customer satisfaction, and driving continuous improvement. Physical Requirements Ability to occasionally lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity and regular use of hands for operating tools and equipment. Frequent use of computer systems, including keyboard, mouse, and multiple monitors. Ability to operate essential tools and testing equipment safely and effectively. Clear vision, hearing, and speech required for communication and task execution. Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move throughout the facility on a regular basis. Work Environment Combination of professional office and production shop settings, utilizing standard office equipment and tools for assembly and prototyping. Exposure to typical shop conditions, including noise, dust, odors, and fumes. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses and gloves, as required; adherence to OSHA safety guidelines is mandatory. Schedule Full-time, on-site position, Monday through Friday, typically between 8:00/9:00 AM and 4:00/5:00 PM.
