Purpose:

The Operations Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of Knight’s Trucking department. The Operations Manager, Trucking, coordinates the efficient delivery of products, promotes the safe operation of company equipment, and strives to provide a high level of customer service for both internal and external customers. The Operations Manager, Trucking, collaborates with market leaders, drives efficiencies, and strives to improve processes for the department.

Essential Functions:

Ensure full compliance with all safety and environmental policies and procedures. Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to hire, onboard, and retain qualified drivers to meet operational demands. Collaborate with Logistics, ensuring efficient scheduling, route optimization, and timely communication with drivers. Monitor driver productivity and lane performance; troubleshoot routing and scheduling issues as needed. Coordinate vehicle maintenance and repairs with the Shop team to ensure fleet readiness. Work closely with Fleet Safety to monitor and coach Safey initiatives involving our camera systems, training programs, and DOT compliance items. Support driver performance through regular feedback, annual reviews, timecard approvals, and monthly safety meetings. Utilize KPIs and internal systems to drive efficiency, process improvements, and continuous improvement. Oversee the daily effectiveness of Knights Trucking, monitoring productivity to drive utilization of our fleet in the most efficient way possible. Manage processes that coordinate with accounting for ticket reconciliation, fuel usage reporting (IFTA), and invoicing accuracy of the day’s activities. Maintain accurate records for equipment movement, maintenance items, and ongoing compliance. Develop and implement standardized operating procedures to ensure consistency and accountability. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver’s license and knowledge of DOT regulations.(CDL is highly preferred) Proven leadership experience in transportation, including dispatch, planning, and driver management. Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, camera systems, and tracking software. Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills across all organizational levels. Highly analytical with strong judgment, problem-solving abilities, and a continuous improvement mindset. Demonstrates urgency, adaptability, and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment. Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings and weekends. Regular travel to our respective markets to build relationships with our drivers and market leaders.

Physical Demands:

Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time. Ability to work indoors and outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather, as needed. Ability to use repetitive finger motions to use a keyboard.
