Job Summary and Qualifications The Director of Clinical Operations is responsible for overseeing key inpatient nursing functions to optimize throughput, enhance nursing processes, and ensure high-quality patient care. This role provides direct supervision to the Manager of House Admin and oversees house supervisors, rapid response, resource nurses, patient safety attendants, the discharge lounge, and RN/Tech float pools. The Director is a strategic leader focused on improving inpatient capacity management, discharge planning, and compliance with regulatory standards. What you will do in this role: Directly supervise the Manager of House Admin and oversee associated clinical and support teams. Foster a collaborative, patient-centered culture that promotes employee engagement and professional development. Serve as a mentor and educational resource to enhance leadership and operational capabilities within respective teams. Support workforce planning, including the recruitment, justification, and acquisition of necessary personnel and resources. Lead and implement facility surge plans, ensuring the efficient use of inpatient capacity. Oversee the execution of seamless patient bedding processes for admissions from the ER, OR, Cath Lab/IR suite, and direct transfers. Drive inpatient throughput and nursing process improvement initiatives, working closely with case management, virtual nurses, and ancillary support staff to optimize discharge planning. Serve as the primary liaison for hospital providers and collaborate with all departments to enhance clinical efficiency and throughput. Utilize innovative systems thinking to collect, analyze, and present data that drives informed decision-making. Participate in strategic planning, capital budgeting, and service line development as needed. Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies, including Joint Commission, CMS, and state and federal agencies. Support disease-specific accreditation processes by facilitating data acquisition, analysis, and synthesis. Develop and update policies and procedures in alignment with regulatory standards and hospital objectives. Lead and participate in process improvement, quality, safety, and patient care initiatives. Act as a systems liaison for departments utilizing tools such as Scheduling Excellence, PLUS, and clinical dashboards. Enhance operational efficiency through technology-driven solutions and data-informed practices. Facilitate communication and training on clinical and operational performance metrics. Actively engage in professional organizations, corporate workgroups, literature reviews, and continuing education opportunities. Represent the hospital in external partnerships, networking events, and customer engagements as directed. Support the hospitals vision, culture, philosophy, and mission through leadership and professional presence.
What qualifications you will need:
Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred. Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in the healthcare setting required. Proven experience in inpatient throughput, capacity management, and nursing process improvement required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of practice and/or an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation required. Parkridge Medical Center is a 270+ bed hospital. We are near downtown Chattanooga. We feature comprehensive diagnostic, medical, and surgical services. These services include cardiovascular surgery and cancer treatment. These services include intensive care, orthopedic and spine surgery, and rehabilitation. The facility includes a state of the art neurosurgery program. Patients also have access to OB-GYN services. Patients have access to a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
