Pigeon Forge, TN Job Details From $46,737.60 a year 23 hours ago Qualifications CDL B Passenger Endorsement Mid-level CDL High school diploma or GED Supervising experience Driving Vehicle maintenance Full Job Description Nature of Work This is very responsible technical and supervisory work assisting with the coordination of public Mass Transit operations for the City of Pigeon Forge. Activities associated with the job include ensuring that Mass Transit operations begin and end on time, assisting with public information and public relations and supervising the daily activities of Mass Transit Operators and other Mass Transit staff. Additional activities include checking Mass Transit Drivers in and collecting fares, inspecting vehicles for damage and/or needed repairs, reviewing accident reports and assisting with the training of new Mass Transit Drivers. Job related duties require considerable knowledge of public Mass Transit operations and operating public Mass Transit vehicles, thorough knowledge of routine and preventive maintenance procedures required to ensure the safe operations of vehicles and related equipment, considerable supervisory experience and strong organizational, interpersonal and decision making skills. Job performance is evaluated by the Mass Transit Director through review of the efficiency and timeliness of Mass Transit operations, knowledge of public Mass Transit operations and vehicle maintenance procedures, ability to effectively supervise and direct the activities of employees and organizational, interpersonal and decision making skills. Illustrative Examples of Work Assists with providing information to the public and other public relations activities. Supervises and directs the daily activities of Mass Transit Drivers and other departmental staff. Checks Mass Transit Drivers in, collects fare boxes and audits collections. Maintains attendance records for Mass Transit Drivers and other departmental employees. Inspects Mass Transit vehicles for damage and needed repairs and coordinates major vehicle repair activities with the service center. Reviews accident reports to ascertain operator error and/or responsibility. Checks weather and road conditions and assists with making alternate routing decisions. Assists with the training and orientation of new Mass Transit Drivers, Mass Transit Washers and other departmental employees. Operates Mass Transit vehicles on assigned routes in accordance with established schedules when necessary. Reviews trip records including fares, mileage, vehicle and equipment defects, etc. Utilizes radio equipment to report unusual traffic conditions, equipment malfunctions, passenger emergencies or other problems. Participates in specialized training classes including Defensive Driving, ADA, DUI, sexual harassment, etc. Assist/Plans special event Mass Transit routes/service. Maintains/creates Mass Transit Drivers work schedules. Completes maintenance work orders for fleet maintenance and maintains copies of work orders. Assist in training and check offs completed training modules for new employees. Performs related duties as required. Graduation from an accredited high school or GED program; must be 21years old to obtain a CDL with passenger endorsement; considerable experience operating public Mass Transit vehicles; thorough knowledge of state and local traffic rules and regulations; ability to operate Mass Transit vehicles in a safe and proper manner; considerable knowledge of city streets and roadways; ability to maintain established schedules on assigned routes; considerable supervisory experience; strong organizational, interpersonal and decision making skills; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience to provide the following knowledge, abilities and skills: Thorough knowledge of state and local traffic rules and regulations governing the operation of public Mass Transit vehicles. Considerable knowledge of operating techniques and practices required for the safe operation of public Mass Transit vehicles and equipment. Considerable knowledge of Mass Transit fares, passes and tickets established for Mass Transit operations. Considerable knowledge of local city streets and roadways including one way streets, traffic signals, cross walks, etc. Considerable knowledge of established routes and schedules for public Mass Transit operations. Considerable knowledge of routine and preventive maintenance inspections and repairs associated with public Mass Transit vehicles and equipment. Considerable knowledge of the proper use of specialized equipment including Intelligent Transportation and Global Positioning equipment and two-way radios. Considerable knowledge of effective supervisory techniques and practices including the selection, evaluation, motivation and discipline and/or discharge of assigned staff. Ability to effectively supervise and direct the activities of departmental staff. Ability to operate public Mass Transit vehicles and related equipment in a safe and proper manner. Ability to ensure the safe boarding and off-loading of passengers and assist disabled individuals when necessary. Ability to ensure that staff adheres to operational policies and procedures established for public Mass Transit operations. Ability to adhere to established routes and schedules in a consistent and timely manner. Ability to interact effectively with co-workers, passengers and the public and provide accurate information regarding Mass Transit schedules, local events and activities, etc. Ability to prepare accurate and thorough reports of daily activities and operations. Ability to make timely and appropriate decisions in response to unusual and/or stressful situations. Ability to maintain quick reflexes and respond quickly and appropriately to unanticipated events and circumstances. Ability to perform the physically demanding aspects of the job in a variety of weather conditions. Ability to perform pre-trip inspections in a thorough manner and report any vehicle and/or equipment defects in a timely manner. Skill in the operation of public Mass Transit vehicles and related equipment. Physical Requirements This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, grasping and repetitive motions Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for peripheral vision Visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities Worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions Necessary Special Requirements Possession of a valid commercial drivers license (CDL) Class B with a passenger endorsement. Incumbents are subject to random drug tests in accordance with DOT regulations.
