This position ensures the creation and maintenance of high-quality snow surfaces, providing members and guests with exceptional skiing and snowboarding conditions. The Snowmaking Manager supervises a dedicated team, manages snowmaking systems and resources, and collaborates with other departments to support the mountain’s overall operations. Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership:
Plan, coordinate, and execute all snowmaking operations to achieve optimal snow coverage and quality. Supervise and mentor snowmaking staff, providing training and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. Monitor weather conditions and adjust snowmaking strategies to maximize efficiency and effectiveness. Maintain and operate snowmaking equipment, including snow guns, hoses, and pumps, ensuring all systems are in excellent working order.
Team Management:
Develop and manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage for snowmaking operations. Foster a team-oriented culture that emphasizes safety, accountability, and high performance. Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback for professional growth.
Equipment and Resource Management:
Oversee maintenance and repair of snowmaking equipment and infrastructure. Manage inventory of parts, tools, and supplies to ensure continuous operations. Collaborate with the Director of Mountain Operations on capital improvements and budget planning.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with other departments, including grooming, lift operations, and ski patrol, to align snowmaking efforts with overall mountain needs. Communicate operational updates, challenges, and achievements to leadership. Assist other departments during peak periods as needed, demonstrating a collaborative approach to mountain operations.
Education & Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of snowmaking experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or managerial role. Strong technical knowledge of snowmaking systems, including pumps, compressors, and snow guns. Familiarity with snowmaking software and weather monitoring tools is preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team in challenging conditions. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
Ability to lift, carry, or drag up to 75 lbs. Comfortable working long hours in extreme winter conditions, including cold, wind, and snow. Ability to operate snowmobiles and other equipment safely and efficiently. Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by the snowmaking schedule. Why Join Us?
