We are seeking a Director of Horticulture Procurement to join our team. The Director of Horticulture Procurement will lead and oversee the entire horticultural procurement function within the organization. Their responsibilities will include developing and implementing strategic procurement plans, managing vendor relationships, and negotiating contracts to ensure a reliable and cost-effective supply chain for horticultural products. With a focus on quality assurance and sustainability, they will drive initiatives to maintain product standards and environmental compliance. Additionally, as a key leader in the organization, they will collaborate with cross-functional teams, provide strategic insights, and contribute to the overall success and growth of the horticulture procurement function.
Responsibilities:
Follow, promote, and enforce all labor laws, safety policies, practices, and procedures to ensure safe working conditions and behaviors are maintained. Assist with safety investigations and corrective actions related to safety hazards and/or incidents. Assist with activities associated with acquiring, managing, training, and retaining talent, including but not limited to, hiring, training, evaluating performance, documenting, and delivering feedback and engaging talent. Manage and correct scheduled hours, worked hours and non-worked hours, including approved time-off, to ensure employee’s hours are recorded and paid accurately and timely. All activities such as sourcing, acquiring, and coordinating the delivery of plant material for regional branches. Issuing and approving all purchase orders for plant material in assigned territory as well as the corresponding invoice reconciliation and approval process. Negotiate the best pricing for product materials and their delivery and provide updated pricing or special pricing of projects requested from the estimating team. Source new vendors as needed. Communicate and coordinate updates on plant material deliveries to regional branches and with other horticulture team members. Utilize cross logistic sources to maximize deliveries. Help ensure plant material provided meets or exceeds the states grades and standards for nurseries or municipalities. Identify shortfall in plant inventory and provide alternative solutions. Visit vendors to tag plant material and provide submittal photos for plant materials when required. Manage supplier relationships and performance. Identify and recommend improvements to purchasing processes and procedures that maximize departmental and company performance. Ensure the purchasing parameters in the system are maintained accurately, for example lead times, MOQs and price break, where applicable. Participate and cooperate in every investigation, fostering a collaborative environment to contribute valuable insights and expertise towards comprehensive and successful case resolutions. Support the procurement team in completing their essential functions during periods of absence or higher business demands. Perform other relevant duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred or Minimum of 10+ years of experience in horticulture or landscaping industry. Minimum of 5 years of purchasing experience preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively share information across teams and stakeholders. Capable of working independently, managing multiple priorities, and making sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. Proficient in computer and technology skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and mobile devices. Willingness and ability to travel up to 35% of the time to provide onsite support and services to various locations across the company. Must possess a valid US driver’s license (or equivalent) and meet Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) verification requirements.
