POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Purchasing will direct and coordinate the overall function of Freshco’s Purchasing Department. Responsible for ensuring the proper organization and efficient operation of all phases of procurement activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides overall leadership, management, and supervision for all purchasing operations. Oversees buying procedures, from planning to execution, following company policies and standards. Reviews, recommends, develops, and implements departmental strategies, polices, procedures, processes, guidelines, forms, and goals. Provides education and training to the procurement department, and any other related department, to ensure effective purchasing practices and interaction with the vendors. Conducts research and evaluations to understand project needs concerning price, quality, and delivery time. Identifies suitable suppliers, negotiates deals, and fosters/manages a positive business relationship(s). Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Knowledge of purchasing practices. Ability to discuss related problems with vendors; evaluate bids; and make decisions promptly and efficiently. Skills in working effectively in a team environment with a customer service focus. Demonstrates organizational and planning skills with attention to detail and follow through. Ability to apply technical expertise, experience, and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials. Demonstrates excellent written communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work independently. Ability to handle sensitive and extensive confidential data. Problem solving skills and the ability to lead, instruct, handle a large variety of details to work with all levels of the company.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Experience in a comparable position in manufacturing required; Master’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Five plus (5 +) years of experience in purchasing department operations including buying and procurement management required; Ten (10) years preferred. Experience processing documentation within designated timeframes to meet deadlines.
