JOB SUMMARY
The Category Manager is responsible for procurement operations and driving value creation for their assigned categories. This position implements the category strategy to provide the materials and services to meet organizational requirements for functionality, quality, volume, availability, and pricing.
Additionally, the position is responsible for the procurement of equipment and services on a total value basis. This role will collaborate with internal stakeholders and external business partners in sourcing, contracting, purchasing, supplier management, risk management and other procurement activities. This position requires identifying and realizing optimization opportunities, implementing processes and building strong relationships. This role requires 4 days in office and 1 day remote (Tuesday & Wednesday are required in-office days). This role is also located in St Louis, Missouri.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Leads and manages categories with a primary focus on equipment categories. Collaborates with suppliers and Topco (Group Procurement Organization) partners to negotiate and implement agreements. Supports the Sr. Manager of Indirect to develop and set strategies for select equipment, material and service categories. Provides thought leadership and subject matter expertise to execute sourcing initiatives for equipment categories in support of business objectives. Works directly with Merchandising and Engineering teams to procure needed equipment, material and services in support of projects including remodels, new store openings and other projects. Creates solutions and troubleshoots issues that surface around quality of the supplies, lead time, sourcing, life of the equipment, impact from product discontinuation, or safety concerns that may arise. Works with suppliers and internal stakeholders to identify opportunities and reduce waste in the supply chain. Uses learnings to create proactive plans to facilitate a seamless future process. Leads, manages and develops one direct report. Supports and assists in their development.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Required Education:
Bachelor’s Degree Minimum Years of Experience:
4-5 years of procurement experience or 8 years of relevant retail experience required
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge Sound understanding of Microsoft Office, Google, ERP and key purchasing and project mgmt system tools. Ability to manage categories to achieve financial targets, strategic goals, and greatest total value for stakeholders. Stay current with market and industry trends. Understand macro and micro market impacts. Understanding of and ability to apply Total cost of Ownership concept. Basic financial literacy, including the understanding of the cost of inventory holding, and understanding downstream impact of procurement decisions. Skills & Abilities Excellent professional communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills including prioritizing, scheduling, and time management; Ability to manage multiple projects and NFR categories. Strong negotiations skills with ability to develop and grow strategic supplier partner relationships. Integrity, ability to maintain security of highly confidential and sensitive information. Excellent ability to evaluate a situation and develop effective and efficient solutions.
