Job Description

This team leader role sits within the Domestic Aviation Security Team, part of the Department for Transport’s Transport Security Directorate. The role sits in the Aviation Security Strategy and Policy Division (ASSP), which comprises 34 staff responsible for the development of policies and strategic planning to combat the threat of terrorist attacks on civil aviation, both within the UK and overseas. As a team that works on threat related issues, we expect our staff to work flexibly and adapt rapidly changing requirements and priorities across the team, wider Division and Directorate. Policy opportunities at the Department for Transport – Department for Transport Careers You will lead on developing and implementing policy to protect airports from terrorist threats, directly influencing the security experienced by passengers. The role involves close engagement with the aviation industry, intelligence community, and cross-government counter-terrorism initiatives (including CONTEST). It offers a unique opportunity to shape national security policy, requiring adaptability, strategic thinking, and occasional international travel in a high-profile, fast-paced environment. You will lead a small team dealing with aviation security, working closely with technologists and scientists to understand how threats to civil aviation can be mitigated, and then developing policy options and working with industry to ensure these mitigations are implemented.
