QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have an active Alabama Special Education certificate and a minimum of 5 years experience as a Special Education teacher. Administrative certification preferred.

Director of Special Programs
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate and serve as LEA representative for the referral, evaluation and placement of students referred for special education services Monitors appropriate IEP development by teachers in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements and compliance reviews Serve as liaison between RTI and special education processes.
- Serve as a resource person to general education teachers who work in an inclusion setting.
- Provide consultation and assistance to local schools to solve problems related to special education as directed. Provide in-service training and workshops for local school personnel on topics relating to pre-referral interventions and special education.
- Provide input to local schools regarding placement and scheduling. Keep informed about current trends and practices in the area of special education and disseminate such information.
- Ensure that sound teaching methods and procedures are used in achieving the education goals in special education.
- Observe, consult and assist individual classroom teachers in instruction and classroom performance. Assist in recruiting and interviewing special education teachers.
- Assist principal in the evaluation of special education teachers. Encourage the use of resources available to help achieve goals.
- Maintain all records and files in accordance with procedures established by the Special Education Department. Monitor faculty training provided by special education teachers. Maintain confidentiality of Board of Education business.
- Be regular and punctual in attendance.
