SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAM COORDINATOR
•FACILITIES The primary accountabilities below are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. Department Summary To advance and coordinate sustainability initiatives within the organization. To manage and implement various programs outlined in the Sustainability Strategic Plan, with an emphasis on managing the day-to day operations of the UAB Green Labs program.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Manages the operational details for collecting and transporting specialty recycling, lab recycling, and other waste streams on campus. Determines schedules for collecting specialty recyclables and manage schedules for personnel and fleet vehicles. Oversees the activities and schedules of Sustainability and Lab Recycling interns, assigning them to tasks based on operational requirements. Serves as a liaison between UAB and internal and external audiences, interpreting and sharing the University’s sustainability goals and initiatives. Assists with the management of the UAB Solar House and Sustainable Community. Provides support for grant applications and management as needed. Leads lab groups through presentations to help attain green lab certification. Performs other duties as assigned.
STARTING ANNUAL RATE OF PAY
$43,890.00•$46,000.00 (Commensurate with experience & qualifications.) Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Sustainability, Business, Economics, Liberal Arts, Public Health, Engineering or a related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Experience in environmental, economic, social sustainability initiatives and research labs preferred.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS
Driving record should meet University underwriting guidelines to drive vehicle in performance of University business. Current underwriting guidelines include possession a valid driver’s license, issued in the United States; at least 21 years of age; at least three years of driving experience; maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Knowledge of determining the energy consumption of equipment Skills in developing and implementing long-term sustainability plans that align with the University’s mission and goals. Strong organizational, communications (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills required.

Must be able to possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform tasks requiring sitting and staring at a computer screen for extended periods of time, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, and extensive walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus.
