This position requires a dynamic individual who is passionate about youth development and possesses strong leadership skills. The Youth Coordinator will oversee various projects, recruit volunteers, and collaborate with community partners to enhance the overall impact of youth initiatives. The Youth Program Coordinator position develops, implements, and assists in managing the youth programs, often in a community or school setting. They are willing to use and share his or her personal, practical experience, knowledge, and first-hand insight to benefit the team and its community. The Youth Program Coordinator will be expected to work one-on-one with the Program Manager and sometimes volunteers to learn more about substance use disorder and the collaborations with partners to support youth and adults’ well-being. The Youth Program Coordinator will be expected to prepare a monthly Alabama Department of Public Health newsletter and collect pictures and captions of each event for monthly reporting. The Youth Program Coordinator engages in non-directive and supportive relationships that promote empowerment with our volunteers. There will be implementation of monthly volunteers, their roles and responsibilities, and the hours spent with us during volunteerism for grants management and monthly reporting.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Prior knowledge of working with youth and youth programs. An understanding of recovery from substance use disorder. Basic understanding of substance use disorder. Ability to work with individuals, youth, administrators to present our youth program presentations in business, community or group settings. Basic knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Canvas, and Microsoft Teams. A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college is strongly preferred in social work, public health, psychology, education or another related field. Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with presentation implementations Knowledge of community resources and connections, and experience working with peers. Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and communication skills. Intermediate computer skills and leadership capabilities. Ability to effectively prioritize and manage time to meet schedule, goals, and deadlines Understand the concepts of policy and environmental changes affected by tobacco free policies in schools Ability to develop and maintain strong working and professional relationships with a wide range of community agencies and organizations Knowledge of or ability to work with volunteers, a volunteer directory, and updating PowerPoint presentations TYTL leadership – (1)Arrange and organize opportunities for students to learn about the community, (2) Lead a small group monthly or bi-monthly (in-person or virtual) to discuss issues surrounding substances and safety for them and their peers, (3) Arrange annual campaign lead by students with YTV Manager to advocate at the community, county, or state level for changes they see that is harming their generation, (4) Outreach to other youth clubs and organizations, and (5) Arrange a town hall 3 times a year with YTV Manager around subjects important to students with community and state leaders who champion/advocate/work for those causes. Knowledge of keeping inventory of supplies for events, ordering supplies when needed, planning events and organizing events, and or meetings. Attend monthly Youth Services Council meetings – 1st Thursday of each month. Keep track of all TYTL and Volunteer files in the Teams folders on the computer. Enter Redcap numbers from schools into the ADPH system within a week after the presentation. Attend Smoke-Free Coalition monthly meetings. Ability to pass a background check. Ability to pass and test negative for illicit substances. Education A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college is strongly preferred in social work, public health, psychology, education, or other related fields. Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and communication skills Knowledge of working in an administrative setting and/or office.
