KKAC provides education and technical assistance to youth, farmers, and landowners on agriculture business, estate planning, heirs’ property issues, and land management through national and statewide conservation programs. In addition, our goal is to educate landowners on the importance of, and opportunities for proper estate planning, training, and resources available through
USDA-NRCS
programs. The Director of Land Management will implement initiatives that increase company visibility and agricultural education in historically underserved communities . This position requires someone community-driven, with initiative, a positive attitude, and the readiness to be a team player. You will work with The KKAC Organization and partnersto achieve conservation and wealth building goals for farmers, landowners, and youth. KKAC employees contribute work to all projects and daily work tasks. Employee responsibilities are subject to change as projects emerge and the workload changes. The Employee agrees to carry out all duties as assigned by the Employer.
Essential Job Functions:
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of
USDA-NRCS
programs and other programs initiated by partners Design and implement “boots on the ground” outreach initiatives to historically underserved farmers in land management areas including implementing conservation practices (EQIP, CSP), land easements (ACEP, ALE), woodland management, and other areas as assigned Provide leadership to department staff and contractors in completing project deliverables and implementing outreach and technical assistance initiatives Facilitate regular department meetings to discuss project activities, outcomes, and departmental needs Ensure proper preparation and maintenance of department files, communications, databases, trackers, calendars, agendas, flyers, outreach materials, sign-in sheets, purchase requests, department reports, and programmatic reports for partners Work with staff and partners to identify and reach historically underserved farmers in target locations with cropland, pastureland, and wooded acreage Cultivate relationships to increase community awareness of the department and to ensure the initiatives are responsive to communities’ needs Manage and implement deliverables of project awards in collaboration with other staff and consultants Lead and support the department in facilitating regular outreach meetings, TA meetings, and one-on-one meetings with farmers as necessary Provide technical assistance to clients to include assisting with conservation program applications such as EQIP, ACEP, ALE, CSP, and additional programs Conduct hydric soil assessments and develop soil maps using the Web Soil Survey to evaluate landowner eligibility for NRCS programs Facilitate and assist with conducting landowner follow-up regularly and as needed; ideally one week after outreach meetings and monthly for technical assistance updates; Maintain communication with department clients ensuring timely transfer and submission of documents Assist with collecting statistical data and other benchmarks needed for grant proposals and reporting Occasional to frequent travel required Performance and Impact Indicators of this role may include, without limitations, the number of outreach meetings held, number of farmers reached and engaged, number of conservation plans developed and implemented, number of technical assistance sessions and follow-ups conducted, the success rate of NRCS program enrollment for our clients, organizational/departmental deliverables completed on time Professional Development Opportunities for this role include support for relevant continued education, trainings, certifications, and workshops. There is also potential for leadership advancement as the organization grows. Performs other duties as assigned
Education, Experience, and Preferred Skills:
Bachelors in Natural Resources Management, Land Management, Agronomy, Biology, Forestry, or a related field Agriculture background required Experience with NRCS programs a plus Proficiency with computers, especially MS Office and diagnostic scientific software Strong presentation skills Proficient research skills
Other Requirements:
Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times to various heights and places in the office Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer Ability to work outside, stand, walk, kneel, and stoop for extended periods Flexible work hours to attend outreach and technical assistance meetings; some weekdays after hours and some Saturdays as needed Open availability for travel by air and road as required for outreach and technical assistance activities. 10-20%
