Connecticut College Farm Operations and Supervision:
Oversee and supervise summer interns in their daily farm work and operations. Meet weekly with faculty and community partners to plan growing season logistics/strategy, community engagement, and youth facilitation Teach essential agricultural skills, including cultivation, planting, maintenance, and crop planning. Conduct weekly meetings to outline tasks and goals for the week. Provide biweekly check-ins with interns to monitor progress and address challenges.
Leadership Development and Training:
Implement leadership development activities and training focused on: Leadership styles and self-awareness Group dynamics and teamwork Reflection and feedback Plan and conduct team-building exercises. Serve as a mentor and guide for interns in their leadership journey. Organize and facilitate at least three leadership training activities outside of biweekly check-ins, including: Initial team-building and goal-setting at the start of the summer Mid-program reflection and progress assessment End-of-program reflection to evaluate growth and learning outcomes Assist interns in planning, hosting, and facilitating individual or small-group education sessions for Fresh Youth and other youth groups throughout the summer
Community Engagement and Collaboration:
Establish and maintain positive relationships between Sprout Summer interns, FRESH New London staff, and FRESH youth summer groups. Foster the development of cross-generational relationships and learning by bridging the gap between faculty, community partners, and students Promote engaged participation in Sprout Garden and FRESH collaborations, including educational, social, and market events. Help to integrate principles of food justice and food sovereignty with the act of growing and distributing food
Communication and Coordination:
Act as a bridge for communication regarding food logistics, delivery, and campus tabling Lead communication efforts with food outlets, including staff and faculty on campus and FRESH CSA and market tabling. Ensure effective coordination of logistics for food distribution.
Program Development and Documentation:
Create a comprehensive guide for future Program Coordinators, including: Detailed list of responsibilities and expectations Plan for leadership development programming Contact information and guidelines for collaboration with Sprout Garden and FRESH New London Provide educational resources and context on local food systems and food justice. Document best practices and recommendations for future program enhancements. Help look for grants to fund the position in the future
