Position Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and reliable After School Counselor to support and engage K-6th grade students with special needs in a nurturing, inclusive, and structured after-school environment. The ideal candidate will have a heart for working with children, especially those who benefit from additional support, and will play a key role in promoting positive social interactions, emotional growth, and safe play.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct supervision and positive support to students during after-school hours Assist with transitions between activities, snack time, and outdoor/indoor play Help implement individualized behavior and communication strategies as needed Encourage participation in enrichment activities, games, and arts and crafts Support students in developing social and self-regulation skills Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment Communicate effectively with fellow staff and respond appropriately to student needs Follow program policies and ensure safety protocols are always observed
Qualifications:
Experience working with children, especially those with special needs (preferred) Ability to remain patient, calm, and flexible in a fast-paced environment Strong communication and teamwork skills DCF- Staff Credentials (a plus) CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) Must pass background check and meet program clearance requirements
