Job Description

Working with the best volunteers available and in partnership with the Council staff, the Program Specialist is responsible for the Council’s activities and advancement functions with a specific emphasis on Cub Scout Family events, Scouts BSA camporees and summer camp, volunteer recognition, civic service, the development of the annual Council Calendar, and delivery of the Council Program Kick-Off. Responsibilities Recruit, orient, and advise high-caliber volunteers to develop and deliver the highest quality programs possible. Lead all activities and camp programs in the council to attract and retain families in Scouting. Guide and serve as a subject matter expert on advancement and recognition functions in the council, and deliver advancement and recognition programs with excellence. Serve as staff advisor to the VP of Program, Activities Committee, Advancement Committee, and all related sub-committees of the Council. Work with and maintain relationships with community leaders to collaborate and develop unique experiences for our Scouts and their families. Serve as a resource and information center for volunteers and staff by keeping current on all BSA policies and opportunities related to programs, activities, service opportunities, advancement, and recognition. Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Scout Executive or the Scout Executive, so services of the council are consistent and uninterrupted. Education Bachelor’s degree preferred Qualifications Customer-focused mindset, evident in the creation of programs designed to excite and serve today’s families. Proven success in working with volunteers to deliver excellently on time and meet budgeted expectations. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet established expectations. Strong relationship-building and communication skills. Confidence in productively managing and rallying a team towards a common goal.

Desired Skills:

A strong marketing, fundraising, and program development background is highly desired. Non-profit, fundraising, or sales experience is a plus. Must be comfortable with public speaking and interacting with diverse audiences. Excellent people skills, enthusiastic, punctual, responsible, and creative. Self-motivated individual with solid time management skills and strong organizational skills in management, budgeting, and planning.
