Founded in 1989 as a single-site club in Hobe Sound serving 165 children, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Martin County (BGCMC) has grown to operate four clubs in Martin County reaching thousands of children and families per year. BGCMC’s vision is to provide a world-class enrichment experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who enters through its doors, with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle Position Overview The Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County are looking for a Program Specialist to plan, implements and supervises Club programs for members following all requirements.
Primary Function:
The Personal Enrichment Specialist is responsible for planning, managing, and supervising Club programs and activities for youth members. This role supports program design, implementation, evaluation, and provides guidance and mentorship to staff across multiple levels. In addition to leading programming, the Personal Enrichment Specialist collaborates closely with Club leadership to assess program impact, identify areas for improvement, and support day-to-day operations.
Program Duties:
1. Develop and lead activities that promote the core principles of the Youth Development Strategy, with a focus on helping youth feel connected, valued, and capable. 2. Administer and deliver programs, services and activities for members that align with the Formula for Impact framework, focusing on quality, measurable outcomes, and effective engagement strategies. 3. Demonstrate knowledge of intentional programming, group management, and conflict resolution. 4. Create an inclusive and supportive environment that actively engages youth in all program activities, encouraging consistent participation and attendance. 5. Provide support to Club leadership by taking the initiative to review program and member feedback, identifying trends and providing insights for program improvements. Report results to leadership, helping to shape the direction of future programming. 6. Coordinate logistics with external vendors and contractors as assigned, including scheduling, rosters, and transportation needs, to ensure smooth and efficient program delivery. 7. Support the planning and promotion of Family Night events, collaborating with families and vendors to ensure inclusive, engaging, and well-executed experiences. 8. Establish rapport with youth and provide mentoring, guidance, role modeling to members and overall direction for their leadership development, artistic skills, physical activity engagement and academic progress. 9. Oversee daily transportation logistics as assigned, including student pick-up from feeder schools. Manage rider behavior and safety protocols, ensuring a safe and positive experience during transit. 10. Plan and coordinate enriching special events, including guest speakers, performances, and field trips that align with youth interests and development goals. 11. Lead and/or monitor and evaluate program areas, services, and activities to ensure safety of members including maintaining a ratio of staff to members of 1:20 or less. 12. Support the Clubs’ meal program as assigned through daily tracking of meal and snack distribution, active supervision during mealtimes, and accurate completion of required reports. 13. Promote positive social interactions, emotional well-being, and self-confidence in youth, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts successfully. Support Club leadership with tasks as assigned including, but not limited to, rosters, staff training/development, overseeing staff lesson plans, etc. 15. Develop, facilitate, and oversee purposeful, engaging activities and group projects that align with program goals, ensuring youth remain motivated, challenged, and invested. 16. Actively identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation within the program. 17. Maintain accurate records, including lesson plans, attendance sheets, incident reports, and any other required documentation in a timely and organized manner. Provide regular reports on program effectiveness to supervisors. 18. Develop a working understanding of grant-funded programs and regularly report progress on key outcomes and performance indicators as requested. 19. Oversee in-Club training of new staff, ensuring new hire checklist is completed. Oversee and implement Clubs’ training procedure of new Program Specialist 20. Support communication efforts by contributing content or gathering updates for monthly newsletters as needed. 21. As assigned, represent the Club at community events, promoting its mission, programs, and services to build external relationships and increase visibility. 22. Maintain a vibrant and inclusive Club environment by managing bulletin board content, coordinating seasonal themes, and supporting BGCMC initiatives through program design and implementation. 23. Additional duties as assigned.
Program Supervision:
1. Provide constant, active supervision and ensure the safety of youth by following established policies and protocols, with the ability to manage challenging situations effectively. Interact with all members and provide motivation and encouragement. 2. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized program area by adhering to daily cleaning and maintenance procedures. Ensure the environment remains conducive to learning and development. 3. Ensure that Club equipment and materials are well maintained and in good condition, providing instructions to members on safe and responsible usage. 4. Discipline members fairly, consistently, and only according to established policies and procedures. 5. Serve as a positive role model by exemplifying professionalism, strong work ethic, and respect for others. Mentor both youth members and peers by setting a high standard of conduct. 6. Work closely with volunteers and partners, providing direction and support to ensure that they effectively contribute to program activities and member engagement. 7. Offer guidance and ensure that volunteers have the tools and knowledge they need to succeed.
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Actively participate in ongoing training sessions and professional development activities to enhance skills, knowledge, and overall program delivery. 2. Mentor and support program staff, sharing knowledge, best practices, and leadership strategies to build team capacity and improve program outcomes. 3. Take a leading role in the development of new programs, including piloting new ideas and integrating them as approved. 4. Under the supervision of the 21st Century Associate, collaborate with other departments and external partners to integrate specialized programs into the larger organizational framework, ensuring consistency and effectiveness. 5. May be required to operate a Club van for transporting members or equipment, adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines. 6. Complete trainings as required. 7. May be required to help out in multiple areas as needed, contributing to the overall success of the team and mission. 8. As needed, assist with cleaning and maintaining program spaces, ensuring a welcoming and well maintained environment for members and staff.
Relationships Internal:
Maintain close daily contact with supervisor, Club staff and volunteers to receive and provide information.
External:
Maintain contact as needed with external community groups, schools, and others. Skills/Knowledge Required 1. High School diploma or GED (or working towards). 2. Experience working with children. 3. CPR and First Aid Certifications (or obtain within the first three months of employment). The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud Compensation This position offers $19 per hour. Schedule Monday-Friday with hours between 10:00 am and 6:30 pm. (Could be before or after depending on the location and situation of the day.)
Typical Non-School Day & Summer Hours of Operation:
Monday through Friday and a shift would fall between the hours of 7:30AM to 5:30PM. (Could be before or after depending on the location and situation of the day.) There may be occasional weekend work with advance notice.
