Adult Transition Program Advocate Center for Independent Living of South Florida Miami, FL Job Details Temporary | Full-time $20 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Vision insurance Qualifications Bilingual 5 years Public speaking Mid-level Education Haitian Creole Bachelor’s degree Case management Social Work Full Job Description Adult Transition Program Advocate Center for Independent Living of South Florida (CILSF) Temp / Full-time with benefits On-site presence required Mondays-Fridays, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM (40 hours per week) $20 per hour

Responsibilities:
  • Perform intake/assessment of consumers consistent with eligibility criteria.
  • Assist consumers in setting and meeting academic and self-sufficiency goals. Maintain accurate records of consumer achievement of program goals and implement timely and effective interventions whenever needed.
  • Educate consumers in the philosophy of Independent Living and teach self-advocacy skills.
  • Ensure participants’ access to community providers and follow up on referrals as needed.
  • Maintain communication with teachers, school counselors and Vocational Rehabilitation counselors to ensure effectiveness and timeliness of Section 504 accommodations.
  • Observe participants’ class interaction and assess need for accommodations.
  • Document consumer monthly contacts accurately and timely.
  • Coordinate efforts with Tutors and other support personnel to guarantee effectiveness of accommodations.
  • Maintain records of tutoring progress, including pre and post-tests, tutoring schedules, completion of tutoring sessions, and invoices.
  • Coordinate with VR counselors to promote job placement referrals after graduation.
  • Teach employability skills or provide pre-placement training to consumers referred by VR for employment services and youth referred for pre-employment transition services.
  • Conduct consumer and stakeholder satisfaction surveys on a timely basis.
  • Participate in relevant training, workshops and staff development opportunities as needed.
  • Must register for federal, state and local background checks, according to existing Miami Dade County Public Schools and CILSF policies. Must also obtain school credentials.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in Social Work, Education, or related field or a minimum of five years of experience working in the same areas required.
  • Fluency in Creole highly preferred. Comfortable with public speaking.
  • Reliable vehicle available on a daily basis required.
  • Must possess knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended.
  • Experience in the social service delivery system in Miami Dade County is preferred.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, on occasion.
  • Life experience related to disability is preferred.
