Full Job Description Job Summary:
A Medicaid Advocate plays a vital role in assisting patients and clients with accessing public benefits through the Department of Children and Families (DCF) . This includes helping individuals apply for Medicaid and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, also known as food stamps) , conducting interviews, gathering documentation, and serving as a liaison between the applicant and the state agency.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Application Assistance Assist patients and families with completing and submitting applications for Medicaid and SNAP through the DCF portal or paper applications. Ensure applications are complete, accurate, and include all necessary supporting documentation (e.g., income, residency, identification, medical records). 2. Patient Interviews & Intake Conduct interviews with patients to assess eligibility for public benefits. Collect personal, medical, and financial information to support Medicaid and food stamp applications. Explain the application process, eligibility requirements, and program guidelines to patients in a clear and respectful manner. 3. Case Management & Follow-Up Track the status of submitted applications and follow up regularly with DCF for updates, pending items, or documentation requests. Communicate with patients about the status of their case, any missing items, or upcoming DCF interviews or verifications. Assist with resubmissions or appeals if a case is denied. 4. Coordination & Advocacy Serve as a liaison between patients, families, healthcare providers, and DCF caseworkers to ensure timely and successful benefit approval. Advocate on behalf of patients to resolve issues or delays that may affect their eligibility or access to care. 5. Documentation & Compliance Maintain detailed records of all interactions, submissions, and communications related to each case. Ensure all actions comply with HIPAA and applicable privacy and confidentiality laws.
Skills and Qualifications:
Knowledge of DCF eligibility guidelines and online application systems. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Bilingual (Spanish/English) Detail-oriented with strong organizational and follow-up skills. Empathy and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse populations.
