Job Description

Court Advocate Betty Griffin Center 2450 Old Moultrie Road, Saint Augustine, FL 32086 Court Advocate – 40hours $17.00 a hour

RESPONSIBILITIES

Assess and evaluate the needs of participants, provide crisis intervention, service management, and safety planning as needed. Provide assistance in obtaining services from the legal, criminal and judicial systems and advocate for them accordingly. Provide information on victim rights and options as a survivor of domestic violence or sexual assault prior to court proceedings. Maintain participant files with accurate, complete, relevant information required by funding and regulatory sources including the timely completion of entering data into Osnium. Maintain current knowledge of dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault, community resources and DCF standards. Gather statistical data on court proceedings such as the percentage of injunctions granted, number of violations, consequences, etc. to ensure survivors are receiving appropriate injunction relief. Assume other tasks assigned by the Chief Program Officer. Maintain appropriate and healthy boundaries with program participants and co-workers. Advocacy may occur at other agency locations and off site as needed.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Minimum two years’ experience in domestic violence or sexual assault related field is preferred.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

Comply with mandatory annual domestic and sexual violence training as required by the Department of Children and Family Services and/or other funding sources.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from community groups and staff.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Proficient in Microsoft Office skills required (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

In addition to the skills and abilities previously described, the following are also required: Excellent written and verbal communication skills Exceptional internal/external customer service skills Ability to liaison with the judicial system Must be a person who can work with survivors of domestic and/or sexual abuse as an individual and/or as a group. Must have the ability to remain calm and rational in a crisis situation. Must have the ability to make decisions regarding survivor intake, evaluation, and service management. Must be independent, self-motivated, and assertive. Driven personality with positive, social attitude and highly professional conduct. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent organizational skills. Strong work ethic and dependability with minimal absenteeism. A valid Florida Driver’s License is preferred.
