KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
These key responsibilities are provided for illustration only and may include other reasonable tasks as assigned for the good of LIFT Youth Center. As a nonprofit, community service organization, LIFT relies heavily on fundraising to support the wide range of programs we provide for the community we serve. Our expectation is that all staff will promote participation in fundraising efforts in some capacity. Act as a role model by your actions in both your professional and private life. Maintain confidentiality of attendees, employees, donors/supporters, and organization information. Arrive for scheduled workday on time and set an example for volunteers to follow. Ensure that the personal timesheet is completed accurately and turned in on time. Set an example by not using your cell phone for personal use while actively engaged with participants. Maintain a professional appearance and always conduct business using excellent customer service skills. Build lasting relationships with students and families. Aid in ensuring a safe, friendly, and supportive environment for students and their families. Aid in regular care of the Youth Center and its equipment. Manage conflict, problems, and emergencies; analyze situations and draw reliable conclusions; take appropriate action without waiting for direction when appropriate and adequate. Management of Student Enrollment and Check-In Become an expert with Afterschool HQ, our student enrollment system. Work with Help Center on set-up, problem solving and management of the system. Ensure that the system is used correctly to enroll all new student attendees. Create any required reporting of Student attendance, engagement, or household information. Follow up with families when students have not been at LIFT for a period of time to maintain the relationship. General Afterschool Program Responsibilities Aid in management of the Youth Center daily hours of operation; working with Program Staff (Program Manager, Program Coordinator, and Program Assistants), interns, and volunteers to ensure the safety of participants. Position yourself in the program area to continually monitor and supervise the safety and behavior of attendees or assign other staff to do so as needed. Be a Mandated Reporter. Report any suspected child abuse to the Program Manager immediately. Aid in record keeping – including activities and events conducted, breakdown of daily participation, notable achievements, and any problem/issues, i.e. accident reports, incident reports, etc. Help to manage conflict, problems, and emergencies; analyze situations and draw reliable conclusions; take appropriate action without waiting for direction when needed and appropriate. Engage with students during free time by playing games or having conversations to build trusted relationships and foster a positive environment. Management and Training of Adult Volunteers Initial intake of interested adult volunteers. Schedule and Lead Monthly Training Sessions, contact those interested who have yet to attend. Run Background checks and complete reference calls for each volunteer. Create Sign Up Genius schedules for volunteers; engaging and scheduling volunteers as needed. Coordination of Support Resources Gather Community Resource contacts and information to display in our Resource Center. Be familiar with these resources so that needed referrals can be made whenever appropriate. Aid in discovering and connecting to any new community resources as they become available. Maintain and update correct information in the lobby and online. Implementation and Management of Programs Plan and lead high-quality workshops during after-school hours at the Center, focusing on REACH program areas: Recreation, Education, Art, Community, and Health. Programmatic assignments will align with individual skill sets. Responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all transportation services for youth participants at LIFT Youth Center. This role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient transportation for youth to and from the center and home. Coordinate weekly Teen Group Therapy sessions – communicating with students, parents and licensed counselor. Coordinate weekly tutoring sessions, communicating with parents and tutors. Work in conjunction with Program Coordinator and Program Manager to develop and implement Summer Programming.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Proven experience in the mental health field preferred. Work experience with 6-12th grade students preferred. Skills and Abilities Must be able to work sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse racial, educational, socioeconomic, sexual/gender identity, and cultural backgrounds. Evidence of skills relevant to developing learning activities, such as creativity, flexibility, and an understanding of planning for different ages, interests, and abilities. Demonstrate ability to motivate staff, build team cohesion, and hold others accountable to expectations. Excellent organizational skills, such as time and project management and prioritizing. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with all levels of employees, management, student participants, and parents. Group leadership skills, including and understanding of group dynamics. Proficiency in MS Office and general computer/technology skills are required. Ability to learn Youth Center software required. Fully support the mission, vision, and values as stated by LIFT. Bring a fun, energetic, and relatable presence in order to connect with middle and high school students, creating a safe, welcoming and positive atmosphere at LIFT Youth Center. Certifications, Clearances, and Availability Must have current certification in CPR/First Aid (or be willing to become certified). Ability to earn mandatory Child Abuse certifications. Must provide a valid driver’s license and employment eligibility verification information in accordance with I-9. With your Valid Driver’s License, you must have the ability/comfort to drive a 15-person van of students. Must pass a criminal background check and NOT be listed in the sex offender registry. Must take and pass a drug test and comply with a “Drug Free” policy, including random tests. Reliable transportation to and from work to program locations, and for activities such as meetings, events, and training in and out of the area. Physical Requirements Ability to adapt to inclement weather conditions and/or situations. Ability to move easily across a variety of indoor and outdoor surfaces. Ability to participate in typical indoor and outdoor games and sports; watch and listen to the activities of a group of students. Ability to bend and lift up to 35 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to work effectively under stress, within deadlines, and in emergency situations.
