PRIMARY FUNCTION

This position is responsible for specialized assistance to schools K – 12 in the areas of health and physical education to meet district goals, as well as coordinating the district’s athletic programs in grades 6 – 8 and intramural programs.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education Level:

Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science, Health and Physical Education, Business, Management, or related field from an accredited college or university.

Preferred:

Master’s degree in business, management, administration, or a Sports Science-related field from an accredited college or university. 2.

Experience, Skill, and Certification:

Valid Georgia Professional certification in health and physical education, athletics administration or sports management
At least five (5) years of satisfactory classroom teaching experience, including both health and physical education
At least 2 years of satisfactory coaching experience
Must have current CPR certification and be willing to become an instructor
Demonstrable expertise in assisting with managing budgets
Demonstrable effectiveness in coordinating work with others to solve problems and to set and achieve goals
Demonstrable competence with office computer software and also data analysis methods
Excellent planning, organization, management, oral/written communication, collaboration and human relations skills
Preferred
Experience in managing athletics programs
Work experience in program development and program management
Experience with grant writing and grant implementation

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Assists with coordinating professional learning activities for the purpose of improving athletic programs.
Supports the director in developing, implementing and delivering training and education programs for staff, students, and coaches. Programs and training include, but are not limited to, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, CPR, First Aid, substance abuse, violence and gang education and school safety.
Solicits funding for athletic programs through researching and writing grants, donations and fundraising.
Assists the director of athletics in the evaluation of the health and physical education and athletics programs as needed.
Assists principals with the selection and evaluation of health and physical education teachers, coaches, and athletics directors. Visits classrooms to provide support and assistance to teachers and site administrators. Provides demonstration teaching when requested by the principal.
Assists with organizing and administering the district’s athletic programs, especially grades 6 – 8.
Assists the Director of Athletics with the improvement of facilities relative to athletics and safety.
Assists in the development of assessments and uses assessment results to improve instruction and programs.
Assists in the development and implementation of the district’s Athletics budget.
Coordinates annual sporting special events as needed.
Assists the Director of Athletics in promoting wellness and safe school programs.
Records and maintains training data on Safe & Drug-Free Schools programs.
Assists the Directors in the evaluation of school-based and district-wide programs.
Assists the Directors in preparing annual reports.
Solicits support from parents, community agencies and university staff for assistance in implementing effective programs and best practices.
Shares the latest research and best practices in all areas of athletics with school staff and administration in implementing effective programs through periodic meetings with department heads and teachers.
Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Incumbents will receive an annual contract. The work calendar will be 250 days. Salary will be determined based on level of certification and allowable experience. (250SL+Supplement) Exempt
