OUTREACH SPECIALIST
General Responsibilities Empowerment Resource Center is seeking an Outreach Specialist. Reporting to the Outreach Services Team Lead, the Outreach Specialist provides risk reduction counseling and administers for HIV and/or sexually transmitted infections (STIs) testing services to at-risk and high-risk individuals at external events, community health fairs, and outreach settings. The incumbent will also provide short-term navigation for newly-identified people living with HIV and those previously-diagnosed, but lost-to-care, in efforts to support them in successfully accessing necessary health care and support services. Duties Administer HIV and/or STI testing services in accordance with program work plans and timelines to ensure timely completion of program deliverables. Conduct risk-reduction counseling sessions. Provide education and referrals for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for HIV and behavioral health services. Complete HIV testing-related documentation to ensure work quality and accuracy. Facilitate linkages to medical treatment by establishing rapport with clients and offering warm handoffs to clinical and/or health education staff. Identify HIV testing sites and partnership to offer targeted HIV testing to priority, primary, and secondary populations. Conduct program promotion and outreach activities during ERC-sponsored and external agency events, campaigns, and activities. Exhibit and represent ERC in various settings, during traditional and non-traditional times. Adhere to ERC’s administrative and recordkeeping guidelines to support accurate bookkeeping and documentation of activities.
Employment Standard & Conditions Educational Background & Experience :
A high school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of two years of experience with health promotion education, HIV and STI risk reduction counseling, and experience with racial and ethnic minority populations at high risk of HIV and other STI. The ability to read, speak, and interpret Spanish is strongly desired. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Must have excellent customer service, interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills and professional demeanor. Must conduct business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, cooperative, sensitive, respectful and kind when dealing with clients, visitors, the public and all colleagues. Must be a team player and pay attention to details and have the ability to multi-task. Must be computer literate and possess strong problem solving skills. Ability to use tack and diplomacy appropriate to situation. Exhibits cultural competency and demonstrates a strong ability to work well with a diverse group of individuals. Projects professionalism in various forms of communications and internal and external interactions. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently. Mastery of time-management and work accuracy despite multi-faceted task, fragmented assignments, and frequent interruptions.
Computer Skills :
Microsoft and other software: Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Adobe.
