Position Overview:
The Manager, Transitions Program (MTP) will primarily beresponsible for directly teaching, counseling, assisting andsupporting adolescents/young adults with intellectual anddevelopmental disabilities to maximize their independence throughskill development and pre-vocational training. The MTP will planand execute Transitions/ Pre-Employment Transition Servicesdirectly with students (1:1, small or large groups) in classroom orcommunity-based settings to help adolescents/young adults developsocial, vocational, and workplace competency skills. The MTP willutilize a person-centered approach to provide support and casemanagement services for adolescents/young adults, engagingeffectively with their families, employers, and other communityproviders. Each Manager, Transitions Program (MTP) will overseevolunteer management – program recruitment, intake and processingof all Pre-ETS referral documentation, as well as ongoing datamanagement to reflect program impact. Staff will performresponsibilities professionally, in collaboration with other teammembers in accordance with Best Buddies core values, policies,practices, program funding and applicable regulatory agencyguidelines. Job Requirements 2 years experience or employment injob coaching, counseling, or special education; or other relatedexperience working with persons with disabilities ORBachelor’sDegree in a related field such as rehabilitation, counseling,social work, psychology, education, human resources, businessadministration, or economics from an accredited college oruniversity and one year of experience as described above.
Preferably 1 year experience as an employment consultant and aproven strong record employer communications and relationship OR1year experience in special education or vocational training. Mustbe adaptable and able to quickly and effectively develop andbalance multiple relationships and get results from a variety ofpeople. Strong presentation, facilitation, project and timemanagement skills. Strong written communicator who pays closeattention to detail; demonstrates a strong initiative, drive forresults and self-assessment skills as well as the ability to workboth independently and as part of a team. Must be comfortableengaging with people with IDD, meeting new people and addressingsensitive issues. Employment is contingent upon accreditation bygoverning state agency. Sharing an office space with peers (ifapplicable). Travel locally/regionally/nationally. Act as stafflead, when assigned, for a program or fundraising event. Manage aspecific aspect of a local program or fundraising event orbusiness. Plan, assist and/or implement awareness campaign(s) forBest Buddies Day and Month, and Disability Employment AwarenessMonth Must be comfortable with frequent local travel, use personalcell phone, and work evenings and weekends as necessary in order toaccomplish job responsibilities. Access to an automobile withapplicable insurance. Job Duties include, but are not limited to:
Programs Coordinate with Friendship Program staff to identifypotentially eligible program participants including, but notlimited to, students with IDD, high school and/or transitionsprogram partners, and meeting clear benchmarks for number andretention of partners and participants. Develop positiverelationships with families, support coordinators, referralsources, and other community stakeholders. Screen referrals andperform intakes for adolescents/young adults. Coordinate andimplement Best Buddies Transitions Program curriculum throughclassroom-based instruction, small group, and one-to-one support asappropriate. Curriculum includes, but is not limited to, jobexploration counseling, self-advocacy, workplace readinesstraining, work-based learning experiences, and post-secondaryeducational counseling. Coordinate with students’ support team toprovide services consistent with students’ individualized needs asdocumented in the IEP. Assume full responsibility for a caseload oftransitions participants, including documenting all services andcommunications in participant case records in a timely manner. Uponsuccessful completion of the Transitions Program, initiate transferof responsibilities to Jobs Program staff Job DevelopmentSpecialist or Employment Consultant as applicable. Provideintroduction to participant, natural supports/guardian, supportcoordinators and employer. Attend training as needed to maintainrequired certifications per state regulating agency. Activelyengages in all Best Buddies Transitions related team meetings(virtually and in-person) to support national collaboration on bestpractices and alignment to national program standardsMarketing/Fund Development Work with supervisor(s) on fundraisingevents as directed. Provide information regarding potentialdonors/supporters to supervisor(s) as appropriate. Work with StateDirector and/or supervisor to increase awareness of Best Buddiesthrough local marketing, public speaking and media initiatives.
Contributes content and images for updates to state website andsocial media. Engages program participants in Best BuddiesDay/Month activities. Operations Complete required paperwork in atimely and organized manner, including but not limited to case filedocumentation; monthly, quarterly, and annual paperwork; reportsrequired by local funding agencies; and incident and grievancereports. Maintain an organized filing system for all relevantpaperwork, including intake forms and authorizations, and usesSalesforce and other databases effectively and appropriately tomanage contacts; all data entry will be completed by establishedtimelines. Collaborates with supervisor to ensure that all requiredreporting is completed accurately and in a timely manner tomaximize funding.
