Recruitment, Retention and Strategy Summary The Program Specialist for Teacher and Staff Quality is responsible for assisting in managing Fulton County Schools’ teacher preparation programs and advancing district teacher quality initiatives. The Program Specialist performs the function of orientating, supervising, evaluating, and providing clinical support to teachers enrolled in the Georgia Teacher Academy for Preparation and Pedagogy (GaTAPP) Program and Empowering Teachers Program. This position influences teacher efficacy by developing courses and facilitating professional development activities for teachers and administrators in an effort to improve student learning. The Specialist also works to ensure that the District remains in compliance with all state standards and requirements for professional certification and educator preparation. Essential Duties Assists with the development, coordination, and implementation of teacher preparation programs Compiles data, assesses needs, and makes recommendations for program improvement Manages various responsibilities including, candidate support teams, field experiences, and mentor performance Assists in the development of teachers’ individual support plans designed to promote teacher effectiveness Develops and delivers high quality face-to-face and on-line professional development trainings for teachers, mentors, and central/school administrators Provides direct support and intervention for teachers working to fulfill program requirements Facilitates individual and group discussions on teacher competencies including, professional responsibilities and instructional practices that enrich teacher performance and student achievement Consults with teachers, mentors, and administrators as a method of communicating program expectations, monitoring progress, and documenting results Completes classroom observations of candidates’ performances and provides appropriate feedback on a regular basis Models transformative instructional and professional practices that promote teacher and leader effectiveness Recommends coursework, learning activities, and resources to enhance teacher competencies Customizes and manages an electronic portfolio and assessment system Collaborates with a variety of District staff, university partners, and community stakeholders Remains available to candidates and mentors for consultation Ensures that teacher and departmental records are appropriately maintained Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator Required Education Bachelor’s Degree in Education Certification/Licensure Must hold or be eligible for a valid and clear teaching certificate Leadership Certification preferred Experience Qualifications Minimum of 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience required; 3 years of supervisory experience preferred; Experience developing courses and delivering face-to-face and online professional development; Experience modeling lessons, assessing teacher performance and mentoring new teachers Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Demonstrated expertise in designing and implementing instruction and assessment aligned with curriculum standards Acute knowledge of pedagogy and teacher induction Solid understanding of teacher evaluation Ability to determine scope of work necessary to complete self-directed projects and to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects, and responsibilities Strong technology skills, including utilizing productivity software and web-based resources Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills necessary to develop and implement innovative solutions for program and instructional challenges Ability to analyze and interpret data to uncover trends and assess results Excellent interpersonal skills needed to work effectively with Learning Communities, administrators, staff, and community members Working Conditions Normal office and school environment Will require travel between schools and administrative offices Will require some work on the weekends throughout the year Physical Demands Routine physical activity associated with normal office environment
