Casualty Assistance Branch Chief 3.8 3.8 out of 5 stars 316 13th St, Fort Eisenhower, GA 30905 The Casualty Assistance Branch Chief (CAC) serves as the lead authority and senior advisor for the Casualty Assistance Center (CAC) at Fort Eisenhower. This highly sensitive and high-visibility role involves planning, managing, and executing all aspects of casualty notification and assistance operations. The incumbent ensures compliance with HQDA, IMCOM, and local policies, while directly supporting military families through the full spectrum of casualty and mortuary affairs. The position requires availability 24/7 and the ability to respond promptly to casualty events with discretion, empathy, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Program Management Direct the full operation of the Casualty Assistance Center, ensuring continuous mission readiness 24/7/365. Independently plan, coordinate, and manage all casualty operations in alignment with

AR 638-8, AR

638-2, and other governing regulations. Serve as the primary point of contact for all internal and external stakeholders, including senior military leadership, government agencies, and families of the fallen. Casualty Notification & Assistance Operations Oversee execution of casualty notification and assignment of Casualty Assistance Officers (CAOs) and Casualty Notification Officers (CNOs) within regulatory timelines. Coordinate and support benefits processing, mortuary entitlements, and military funeral honors. Ensure proper submission and accuracy of all required documentation: DD Form 93, SGLV, DEERS data, STP files, and casualty messages. Assist families of deceased Soldiers—including Active Duty, Retirees, and 120-Day REFRAD cases—with understanding and accessing Veterans’ entitlements and survivor benefits. Serve as a liaison with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), VA, Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) personnel, and other key agencies to resolve benefits and payment issues. Policy, Compliance & Training Interpret and implement statutory, regulatory, and policy guidance from HQDA and IMCOM. Evaluate existing policies and recommend improvements to enhance effectiveness and compliance. Develop and conduct workshops, seminars, and training programs on entitlements, casualty procedures, and military funeral honors. Present briefings to senior military officials, units, family readiness groups, and civic organizations. Support congressional and Inspector General (IG) inquiries, family correspondence, and other external reviews. Interagency & Family Support Coordination Maintain ongoing contact with CAOs, NOK (Next of Kin), casualty-related offices, Veterans Service Organizations, and other federal agencies. Provide direct support to families of Very Seriously Ill/Injured (VSI), Seriously Ill/Injured (SI), and Not Seriously Ill/Injured (NSI) Soldiers, including coordinating emergency travel and reimbursement. Process FSGLI death claims for dependent spouses and children of Active-Duty Soldiers. Special Program & Administrative Duties Facilitate the naturalization process for non-citizen Soldiers, including document verification, N-400 reviews, and submission of packets to USCIS. Conduct briefings and coordinate with Investigating Officers (IOs) for formal Line of Duty (LOD) death investigations. Manage duty rosters across all assigned units to ensure coverage of Casualty Assistance and Notification duties. Process medical extensions for Soldiers pending MEB (Medical Evaluation Board), ensuring they have the time required (180-365 days) to complete the process. Serve as alternate mail courier for the Directorate of Human Resources (DHR).

Qualifications:

U.S. Citizenship and ability to pass a background investigation are required. Extensive experience in casualty operations, military personnel management, and leadership roles. Deep knowledge of relevant Army regulations (e.g., AR 638-8, AR 638-2), benefits programs, and DoD casualty procedures. Proven ability to handle sensitive situations with confidentiality, tact, and empathy. Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to brief senior officials and interface with grieving families. Ability to work extended hours, nights, weekends, and be available on a 24/7 basis.
