POSITION OVERVIEW A
private foundation is seeking a Grants Program Officer for its grantmaking programs. The Foundation is managed presently by its Founder/Board President and a growing staff team. The Foundation’s grantmaking focuses primarily on education, youth development, and arts and culture, predominantly in the Greater Boston area. There is a strong value on creativity, amplifying the voices of others, and building partnerships with key stakeholders. The Grants Program Officer will manage all grant awards made by the Directors, in coordination with the founder and deputy director, who award grants quarterly. The Grants Program Officer will work in collaboration with staff and board members on program goals, grant review, and evaluation. The Grants Program Officer would also help research emerging program areas of interest. This is a full-time, in-office position based in the Foundation’s office in Boston, with occasional local travel when needed. Given the nature of the role, the position is not well-suited for remote work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Management Coordinate the quarterly grant process for the Foundation and participate in program development and long-term planning Serve as primary point of contact for all grantees and applicants Review grant applications, write summaries for senior staff and Trustees, and present grant recommendations to staff and board Organize and conduct site visits as part of the grant evaluation process Research and report on issue areas of interest to the Foundation Represent the Foundation at meetings, conferences, and grantee events Collaborate with other Foundation program staff on intersecting areas of Foundation interest Program Operations and Administration Collaborate with the Office Manager on grant awards, payments, database development and tracking, and reporting Perform administrative tasks as needed to ensure proper management of the Foundation’s grantmaking program, including working within and managing the grantmaking database
QUALIFICATIONS
At least 4-7 years of grantmaking experience in philanthropy Experience in or understanding of the Greater Boston nonprofit ecosystem, in particular within the Foundation’s focus areas A clear, proactive, communicator who is comfortable working in a small team and is willing to ask questions, take responsibility, and be accountable Ethical, impeccable integrity, judgment, and discretion along with a professional demeanor and interpersonal style that elicits trust A self-starter who anticipates and actively seeks opportunities to problem solve and serve Strong organizational and time management skills Excellent written and oral communication skills, with strong attention to detail Ability to remain warm, courteous, and positive even in challenging circumstances A calm, secure person who is not easily overwhelmed, and appreciates open and direct feedback Demonstrated diplomacy, judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills Strong multi-tasking skills; flexible and able to work well under pressure Adaptable, with a commitment to learning and growth Strong desire to work within a collaborative and interdependent staff team While the above is intended to describe the general nature and level of work for this position, it is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of individuals in this role.
