Conflict Resolution Youth Programming Coordinator (YPC) Mediation Services of North Central MA, Inc. PART-TIME

(approx. 15 hours/week on average) unbenefited position (with the exception of optional 401k participation with employer contribution). The position is compensated at an hourly rate and will begin in August of 2025. The number of hours and work schedule are determined by the Executive Director and the funding specifications; however, the scheduling of those hours has flexibility and is ideal for an individual looking to work during school-day hours with a passion for youth development and community engagement. The YPC reports directly to and is supervised by the Executive Director. The YPC administers conflict resolution programs in coordination with the youth partner’s appointed site contact(s), in accordance with grant guidelines and appropriate mediation protocols. It is expected the YPC will exercise good judgment within the parameters established with the program partners. The Executive Director conducts performance evaluations of staff on a yearly basis.

YOUR ROLE & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Revise and implement the marketing plan for outreach to schools, clubs and youth groups in the north central Worcester County catchment to (re)introduce MSI’s youth services and programs. Research, analyze and expand MSI’s conflict resolution programs to reach the youth in our catchment area. Working with the Executive Director, research and identify additional funding sources to support youth conflict resolution programs. Develop good working relationships with existing and potential youth partners, Administrators at various facilities and potential sources of referrals – principal, vice-principals, counselors, teachers, students, etc.; help develop flyers and posters (and other in-house advertising ideas including social media videos) to promote the program. Implement outreach plan and activities to promote the programs and increase awareness of peer mediation, restorative justice and other MSI services associated with youth work; Assist Partners’ Coordinators, as necessary, with the recruitment and screening of a cross-section of youth to be trained as peer mediators. Schedule peer mediation training and workshops with youth partners and MSI staff; Assist Partners’ Coordinator in providing assistance to student mediators and parties as needed; assist in writing agreements. Supervision of mediation process when present at Partner’s location; Supervise and mentor peer mediators, if requested by Partner; Assist Partners’ Coordinator with ongoing training and debriefs; Meet with school designees as needed and participate in school related functions that support the effort of the peer mediation program. Assist Executive Director in expansion of youth programming. Contemporaneous record keeping and team communication Maintain files, statistical reports and activity management database and assist executive director in youth grant funding compliance and youth report writing; Engagement in periodic meetings with grant funder, as may be required under grant terms; Apply principles of mediation to coordination of youth program and keep current in the procedures, standards, and systems in the Community Mediation field; Assist other MSI program coordinators and E.D. in responding promptly to inquiries of individuals and community organizations seeking conflict resolution assistance and youth services. Report to at least weekly to Executive Director at agency staff meetings progress with youth programming efforts and plans and any issues that have arisen; Meet Agency continuing mediator education yearly requirements; Other program activities may include community outreach event participation; training, assisting Director with daily operations of the organization and other duties, as required.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE

High school diploma or equivalent required, at least some college experience preferred; Market development experience, preferably in the non-profit sector, youth outreach a plus; Demonstrated experience and aptitude in working with youth (most of the populations we work with are between the ages of 10 and 18 years of age) Prior mediation and/or program coordination experience; Mediator who has successfully completed a 35-40 hour basic mediation training program comparable to Mediation Service of North Central Ma, Inc.’s training Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate and present ideas in a clear manner required; Reliable, motivated, self-driven individuals with excellent organizational skills and a high degree of flexibility and productivity; Ability to maintain confidentiality; Ability to work collaboratively with agency staff, volunteers, other community organizations, and school personnel; Ability to work successfully and respectfully with a diverse client population; Ability and flexibility to use technology including (MS Office 365, online meeting and conferencing, and social media applications), and operating audio/visual equipment (and patience to teach partners or clients how to use these modalities); Ability to learn new systems/computer programs; Possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work and effectively meet deadlines at expected quality; Ability to work flexible hours upon advanced notice; Ability to pass criminal records check; Must have reliable transportation and ability to travel to various work sites for client services and outreach within Massachusetts; Experience working with school populations (i.e. students, teachers and/or parents) and/or knowledge of MA court operations are a plus; Bi-lingual preferred; Experience and advance training in different types of mediation (i.e. Summary Process, Divorce/Family, Elder, Re-entry, etc.), conflict coaching, or restorative justice training a plus; Most of our staff currently operates in a hybrid capacity, much of the outreach work and many meetings can be done remotely with the approval of the Director, however some organizational tasks, as well as trainings, workshops, and delivery of other services to youth program partners is in person. Your main work location is considered our office in Leominster, and in order to do any work remotely you must have reliable internet access, meet all deadlines, a private space in which to work, due to confidential nature of work, and the ability to use remote systems. A laptop or tablet is issued to all employees for exclusively business use. Employees are responsible for safekeeping during employment and the return of any issued equipment in like condition when they leave the agency and for notifying the Director of any problems with said equipment immediately.
