  • LIMITED PERIOD POSITION
  • The Maine CDC Office of Injury and Violence Prevention (OIVP) is looking for a Health Program Manager to provide leadership for community violence prevention programs across Maine.

This program will coordinate work creating protective environments, promoting healthy family relationships, connecting young people to caring adults, and strengthening skills in youth and young adults. This position will oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of community violence prevention initiatives within Maine. This position requires a dynamic individual with expertise in public health programming, community engagement, and violence prevention. This position will collaborate with other state government offices and departments, community organizations, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to develop and maintain programs that reduce violence, enhance safety, and improve the well-being of communities throughout the state. It will also oversee community assessments and environmental scans to support coordination and collaboration. Core Responsibilities As a key member of the OIVP team, your core responsibilities will include:

  • Support community violence prevention strategy, collaboration, and evaluation
  • Collaborate with community partners and key stakeholders to coordinate efforts and maximize impact
  • Respond to and manage federal funding awards
  • Lead the development and dissemination of reports, briefs, and papers on effective community violence prevention strategies in Maine
  • Ensure programmatic alignment with evidence-informed practice and data-driven needs
  • Actively participate in Division-wide activities relating to the development and support of environments that promote health and support and reinforce healthful behaviors
  • Monitor and evaluate data to identify implications for short and long-range planning
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight of all contracts within the program
  • Manage the competitive procurement and contracting process for all supported agreements
  • Develop and manage a program budget, ensuring adherence to funding guidelines
  • Lead public awareness and outreach to educate communities on the importance of violence prevention
  • Supervise program staff, including delegation of activities and managing other personnel issues
  • Participate in the Legislative Process, including preparing written testimony and delivering oral testimony, as guided by the DHHS Commissioner’s and MaineCDC Director’s Offices
  • Represent the program at local and national meetings, conferences, and trainings
Minimum Qualifications:

(Entry level knowledges, skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, BUT

ARE NOT LIMITED TO

the following coursework/training and/or experience). A Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health or Health Sciences, Health Education, one of the Behavioral Sciences, Public Administration, or Education

  • AND•three (3) years’ experience in health program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation•OR•an equivalent seven (7) year combination of education, training, and experience.
Preferred candidates will also have:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of and experience in implementing best practices in community violence prevention
  • Ability to gather, synthesize, and summarize a variety of information for decision-making, program planning, and general awareness
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external partners
  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge and experience identifying, implementing, and assessing evidence-based practices and programs
  • Strong understanding of the social determinants of health and how they relate to violence prevention
