Job Summary
The Senior Manager, Technical Assistance Program (TAP), plays a crucial role in advancing Purdue MEP’s mission to enhance Indiana’s prosperity, health, and quality of life. Through this role, the Senior Manager will contribute to strengthening Indiana’s manufacturing sector and supporting a diverse array of business in improving operational efficiency, adopting new technologies, and achieving economic impacts. Each year, the organization supports over 450 companies across areas like technology adoption, manufacturing processes, product design, problem-solving, human resources, and strategic planning. The Senior Manager works with BD Team, finds and meets with clients, develops project scopes, selects and assigns qualified faculty and graduate assistants, oversees project completion, and gathers feedback on the economic outcomes achieved.
Key responsibilities include working with the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) and TAP leadership to establish annual budgets and monitor performance. Working with the BD Team in finding and meeting with clients will be the most significant portion of time. The Senior Manager also evaluates the performance of schools and departments, providing recommendations for budget adjustments as needed. This position is eligible for annual incentive compensation.
What We’re Looking For:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Industrial Management, engineering or a related field
Four or more years of management experience
Management and understanding of budgeting processes
Management of performance through key metrics and data analysis
Successful management of multiple challenging concurrent projects or assignments in a business, academic, or manufacturing environment
Direct experience in a consulting or manufacturing firm utilizing technical skills for product and/or process design or improvement
Customer or external relationship management
Proven track record of successfully interfacing with both technical and managerial levels of manufacturing companies in a consultative role
Successful collaboration and engagement with university faculty and staff on technical projects
Travel – this position requires up to 50% travel within Indiana and rare travel outside the state
Superior organizational and project management skills to manage multiple concurrent projects and initiatives
Ability to productively interact with faculty and with the business sector
Ability to respond quickly and effectively in a fast-paced work environment with many interruptions
Ability to interface with Indiana manufacturers to assist with diverse technical challenges and connect with the best available Purdue resources and expertise to solve those issues
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to support the continuous improvement and quality of TAP’s systems and procedures
Strong aptitude for industry outreach and engagement
Adept leadership abilities working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experience levels
Proven performance management adn negotiation capability
Ability to successfully interact with government agencies, industry associations, and other organizations to create productive partnerships
Ability to build productive relationships across multiple Purdue departments and Centers of Excellence to strengthen TAP/MEP, adding new capabilities and expertise to the program
Ability to work effectively with manufacturing companies, helping them identify/define technical and process-related issues, connecting them with appropriate university resources for driving value-centric solutions
Knowledge of and ability to communicate the benefits of advanced manufacturing technologies (may include robots, 3D printers, AR/VR devices, sensors, etc.)
Ability to review and revise technical statements of work for proposed projects
