About the Position
•This is a time limited NS-14 position• The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) seeks a Program Officer to serve in the Programs and Communication Division. This individual will work closely with the Program Manager to plan, coordinate, and review events held at all MDAH locations. The Program Officer will be responsible for recording the dates and locations of events, assisting in the planning process for programs at all sites, and ensuring that essential information is communicated to the appropriate individuals to support the success of each program. Additionally, the Program Officer will collaborate with the marketing team to help promote events and work with the program team at the Two Mississippi Museums to develop engaging programs for families with young children. Key responsibilities include populating and maintaining the MDAH Programs Outlook calendar and other event calendars, communicating with vendors and community members to coordinate event logistics, and writing event descriptions and evaluation forms. The Program Officer will also participate in events, assist with on-site tasks as needed, help the Program Manager manage event budgets, and collect and interpret data to enhance future programming.
What you’ll need to be Successful
The position requires proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Outlook, the ability to plan events at least two months in advance, conceptualize events six months ahead, maintain an annual programs calendar, and a willingness to collaborate with multiple departments.
Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of experience.
Agency preferred qualifications:
This role typically requires a bachelor’s degree in history or another humanities field and at least two years of experience. Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Excel is essential, as is a strong willingness to learn.
