Thomasville General Statement of Duties Performs responsible administrative work overseeing the daily operation of the Congregate Nutrition Program. Distinguishing Features of the Class An employee in this class is responsible for managing nutrition site coordinators, overseeing the daily operations of the congregate nutrition sites and marketing for the nutrition sites. Work generally requires the employee to assess client eligibility, recruit volunteers, ensures meals are delivered / served in accordance with established standards, and maintains up-to-date files on clients. Progress is reported through periodic conferences and meetings. Job duties correlate with the department’s missions to provide services and programs that will maintain or improve independence, encourage growth and community participation, prevent or delay institutionalization and help meet the current and future needs of older adults. Work is performed under general supervision of the Nutrition Program Manager and is evaluated through observation, conferences, and the quality and effectiveness of work completed. Illustrative Examples of Work
- Manages the daily operations of congregate nutrition program including five congregate meal sites.
- Markets Congregate Nutrition Program through contact with community stakeholders, businesses, service organizations, healthcare entities, churches, and civic groups. Research and develop plans to implement the latest trends in Congregate Nutrition and meal sites.
- Train / assist Congregate Site Coordinators and participants to become more digital in tracking meals with the use of software such as My Senior Center or ServTracker
- Research grants to provide additional funding that will enhance quality of the program.
- Monitors meal vendor and provision of meals in accordance with the USDA and NC Department of Health and Human Services Food Safety Guidelines.
- Review units of service and enter data into state management system.
- Performs administrative functions such as file maintenance.

- Prepare reports for the Senior Services Director, Nutrition Program Manager, Advisory Board, Management Team meeting and meetings with subordinates.
- Works with the Nutrition Programs Manager and staff to develop and implement long and short-range goals for the program.
- Works with the Nutrition Manager to participate in the preparation and administration of the Nutrition program’s portion of the county budget, Performance Based Budgeting Goals and nutrition funding through the Home and Community Block Grant.
- Develops, under the direction of the Nutrition Programs Manager and Director, policies, procedures and guidelines for internal and public use.
- Monitors the work of staff to ensure compliance with agency policies, and state standards; reviews work through on-going and annual evaluations; assist program staff in setting goals.
- Interviews clients when special problems arise, listens to concerns, grievances and recommends/takes appropriate action.
- Collects and reviews travel and time sheets.
- Order meals daily.
- Works with Nutrition Program Manager to develop agendas for monthly division meetings
- Provides support to site coordinators in developing and implementing programming that effectively meets the needs of older adults.
- Adheres to the department’s safety rules and regulations.
- Performs other related duties as required.

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various community agencies, the medical community, gerontology facilities and the general public. Physical Requirements
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational support functions of fingering, talking and hearing.
- Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Must possess visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, perform accounting and transcription, operate a computer terminal and perform extensive reading.
- Worker is required to visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the assigned work.
- Worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside. Education and Experience
- Associates Degree in Business or Nutrition Studies and considerable experience in nutrition, food service or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licenses and Certifications
