POSITION SUMMARY

The Advanced Learning Program Specialist works closely with the school AIG Leads, AIG Specialists, teachers, and other school based staff to address the academic, intellectual, social, and emotional needs of gifted learners. The Advanced Learning Program Specialist provides support through professional development, modeling and observing classroom instruction, and providing feedback to teachers. The position requires a track record of excellence as a classroom teacher and exemplary skills in developing, implementing, and assessing differentiated instructional strategies to improve the academic achievement of gifted learners. Additionally, the candidate will support school level AIG Leads through data based problem solving and maintaining effective AIG programming related to processes, procedures, and protocols in gifted education.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES

Must hold a NC Educator’s Continuing License
Must hold certification in Gifted Education
Master’s degree in educational field preferred
Four or more years of teaching experience
Excellent communication, interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills required to effectively facilitate professional development
Skills in collecting, analyzing, and using data
Ability to collaboratively design high quality training for teachers and school staff
Knowledge regarding technical material, software application, conflict resolution, regulations and policies, adult learning best practices, as well as curriculum and instructional methods
Knowledge of North Carolina Standard Course of Study, particularly in secondary education
Knowledge of North Carolina State and National Gifted Standards
Ability to work independently, manage time and resources to accomplish assigned tasks
Capacity to work as part of a team; leading, delegating and organizing tasks planning and managing multiple projects
Ability to network and facilitate internal and external groups; communicate diverse groups and individuals; meet deadlines and schedules

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Maintain a current understanding of the theory and practice of research-based best instructional practices for gifted learners.
Develop rigorous, standards aligned lessons which include the integration of instructional technology to strengthen implementation of the curriculum, meet unique student needs, and support differentiated instruction.
Model lessons and demonstrate differentiated teaching strategies in classrooms for the purpose of teacher observations and improved instructional delivery.
Collaborate with teachers on program improvement and instructional interventions for gifted students.
Work with school personnel and data information services to complete fidelity checks related to program services, teacher credentials, and required communications.
Coordinate and provide on-going AIG staff development at the district and at the school levels.
Participate in regular professional development to improve knowledge and skills.
Disseminate information regarding educational research and significant development on the state and national level in gifted education.
Support AIG programming by educating school personnel on the processes, procedures, and protocols in gifted education.
Work with AIG Leads and teachers to ensure honors courses have the rigorous requirements necessary for that level of coursework.
Assist secondary schools with the Credit by Demonstrated (CDM) process.
Assist with the planning and implementation of the district AIG plan.
Assist with maintaining electronic and hard copy data on students identified AIG or in the AIG identification process.
Assist in the development of processes related to screening, referral, identification, and placement of gifted students. Facilitate testing procedures for school personnel to test for appropriate student services. Coordinate and manage storage and distribution of gifted instructional materials and resources. Serve on AIG Leadership Team. Perform other related work as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms
Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
