DESCRIPTION:
Coordinate the efforts of the Martin-Tyrrell-Washington District Health Department of reducing the infant mortality rate and infant mortality disparity ratio by implementing evidence-based strategies that are proven to be an effective means to improve birth outcomes. This coordinator will provide Breastfeeding Support Services to pregnant and postpartum women, facilitate Ready, Set, Baby! classes in the community, and co-facilitate Infant Safe Sleep classes to expecting mothers and their support persons. These classes shall be offered in both English and Spanish. Conduct community education and advocacy (including community events, increase number of breastfeeding-friendly spaces and policies in community and workplace), track program data, and complete program reports. Develop and administer program participant satisfaction surveys.
Complete requirements upon hire:
Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Core Training for Level 2, attend quarterly continuing education trainings, complete two-part online Ready, Set, BABY! Training. This employee will be working with higher level of health education and/or supervisor.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Previous breastfeeding experience required. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program participants, health department staff, other community agencies and the general public.
MINUMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through two years of experience in performing similar instructional and community placement tasks; or graduation from a two-year associate degree program designed to prepare support personnel for human services agencies which includes a six month practice/internship in a similar setting (one year of the above experience may be substituted for the practice).
