Program Coordinator/Movement Instructor Allegro Foundation 419 Ardmore Rd, Charlotte, NC 28209 Movement Instructor/Program Coordinator The Allegro Foundation… a Champion for Children with Disabilities is looking for a kind and extroverted Program Coordinator/Movement Instructor to join our staff! The candidate must love children, write well, and have good communication skills. You will be trained in the Allegro Technique beginning as an assistant in class and moving towards becoming a lead instructor. Prior experience in dance instruction is highly preferred. Allegro Foundation… a Champion for Children with Disabilities is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that combines movement instruction with educational & medical expertise, creating new techniques to teach children living with disabilities and enhance their quality of life. The Allegro Foundation teaches 30-minute movement education classes to children living with disabilities and children who are at risk. Allegro travels to Charlotte Mecklenburg schools, York County, SC schools, community outreach sites, and summer camps in the area to facilitate these classes.

Responsibilities:

Reports to: President, Executive Director, and Communications and Operations Director Hours /

Week:

40 Movement Education

  • you will be trained in Allegro’s techniques for working with children living with disabilities Assistant Instructor Assist Allegro Lead teacher in preparing room for class Assist Allegro Lead teacher throughout class with music and props Monitor children’s behavior and assist with classroom management as needed Encourage peer buddies, volunteers, and teaching assistants to focus on their child and assist them as needed •May be required to dress up in a themed, child friendly costume for class Lead Instructor Attend Allegro curriculum meetings Follow lesson plans from Allegro curriculum and teach assigned programs in 30•minute Movement Education classes to children living with disabilities Must be willing to travel to Allegro office to pick up class materials and props for the week Attend Choreography meetings with President and other instructors.

Be able to teach this choreography to children with disabilities

  • mirroring is an essential teaching component of a Lead Teacher.

Help conduct Assessments, Evaluations, and Case Studies Interact professionally with volunteers, students, and school teachers Attend / lead dress rehearsals and practices for student presentations at fundraisers At school sites—speak with teachers about giving lesson plans to the Executive Director; make copies to take back to office if that is necessary to get information needed.

Program Coordinator:
  • Teach movement education classes for children with disabilities
  • Develop curriculum and lesson plans for programs with Founder/President and Executive Director
  • Work with President and Executive Director to implement movement techniques and to implement academic lesson plans
  • Conduct annual meetings with sites for program set-up and maintain relationship throughout the year with principals and teachers
  • Actively seeks new locations for program expansion
  • Update and maintain information regarding program locations. Keep current files on class locations, site coordinators, contact information
  • Maintain and organize music and photo library
  • Research and order music for classes with Executive Director
  • Make copies of all music for classes
  • Conduct presentations
  • Lead rehearsals and performances
  • Complete special projects as needed
Other Responsibilities Social Media:

update social media accounts as needed Auction calls: making cold calls to obtain auction items for our fundraisers.

Qualifications:

Education Associate or Bachelor’s degree Experience Working with children 3+ years of work experience Dance and/or aerobics/movement instructor experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to teach children movement to counts and music; experience with dance and performance is a plus Strong leader who is able to take control of a classroom of young students and project voice Excellent writing skills Responsible
