Overview
The W.A.L.K. (Work Achieves Lasting Knowledge) Program at Northampton County High School is dedicated to supporting students who are at risk of not graduating on time. The program provides targeted academic, social, and emotional support to students who are failing classes, in danger of dropping out, recent transfers, or those who need a non-traditional academic environment to succeed.
The W.A.L.K. Coordinator is a compassionate, organized, and dynamic leader responsible for overseeing the daily operations, staff, and student progress within the program. The Coordinator ensures that each student receives the individualized support necessary to achieve academic success and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership
Oversee the implementation and daily operations of the W.A.L.K. Program.
Supervise and support program personnel, including tutors and counselors.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Student Support
Develop individualized academic plans in collaboration with students, teachers, and parents/guardians.
Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed.
Provide or coordinate academic support, counseling, and life skills coaching.
Build trusting relationships with students, focusing on both academic and personal development.
Collaboration & Communication
Serve as the primary liaison between the W.A.L.K. Program, school administration, teachers, and families.
Coordinate with school counselors, social workers, and external agencies as needed.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs.
Program Development & Evaluation
Collect and analyze data to assess program effectiveness and student outcomes.
Make recommendations for program improvements.
Ensure compliance with all district and state requirements.
Other Duties
Organize and facilitate meetings, workshops, and events for students and families.
Maintain accurate student records and documentation.
Perform other related duties as assigned by school administration.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
Experience working with at-risk youth in an educational setting.
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
Knowledge of alternative education strategies and interventions.
Commitment to equity, student success, and holistic support.
