POSITION SUMMARY

The Kids Zone Instructor designs and delivers hour long classes for children ages 3-11. They are responsible for developing and leading age-appropriate classes that focus on skill and character development. They must run the program with safety in the forefront and provide a quality experience to children. They are responsible for managing the functions of the program in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the

YMCA. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Plans, prepares and delivers one hour, age appropriate lesson/activity plans focused on the assigned content area (PE, STEM, Arts and Crafts, etc.) for the children in Kids Zone program. Provides direction and leadership to support staff and children during activity times. Develops strong relationships with participants and parents by creating a warm, inviting, and inclusive experience for all. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions with participants, parents, staff and leadership. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility. Communicates with supervisor and is responsible for finding a substitute to fill assigned shift in a timely fashion if unavailable for program. Maintains a safe environment through attention to detail by providing well-programmed activities for children. Monitors head counts consistently to ensure safety of children. Follows YMCA policies, procedures and program guidelines, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures. Attends all staff meetings and trainings, and keep all necessary trainings up-to-date.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous experience working with children required. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor education, planning and organizing activities, crafts, songs/music, skits, sports, recreational game, etc. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Specific certifications and/or training may be required. Multi-lingual desired but not required.
