Job Description The City of Raleigh is hiring a Sidewalk Program Coordinator to lead maintenance and improvement efforts for the city’s sidewalk and curb ramp infrastructure. This position is part of the Street Maintenance Division and plays a key role in ensuring safe, accessible pedestrian facilities across the city. In this role, you’ll oversee a key public-facing program that ensures sidewalks are maintained in safe, accessible condition — supporting pedestrian safety and mobility across Raleigh. You’ll coordinate repair contracts, manage inspections, respond to community concerns, and work closely with internal teams to maintain accurate inventory data and meet ADA standards. About Us:

The Street Maintenance Division is part of the Transportation Department at the City of Raleigh. Our crews and coordinators are responsible for maintaining and improving the physical infrastructure that keeps Raleigh moving — including streets, sidewalks, curb ramps, and right-of-way areas. This new position was created to support the city’s growing investment in pedestrian safety, accessibility, and connectivity. You’ll join a collaborative team that works closely with concrete and asphalt crews, inspectors, and other city divisions to improve public infrastructure and service delivery. Duties and Responsibilities Lead and coordinate the sidewalk and curb ramp program, balancing fieldwork and data management
Respond to citizen inquiries via phone, email, service requests, and in-person interactions
Perform field inspections and site visits to assess conditions, identify repair needs, and ensure

compliance
Prepare work scopes and quantities for both internal and external crews, and track progress through Cityworks
Collaborate with internal teams (inspectors, maintenance crews, analysts) and external partners (contractors, utilities, other departments)
Maintain accurate records of work completed, and support tracking and reporting efforts using

ArcGIS and Excel Typical Qualifications Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or directly related field, five years of professional engineering and/or construction/project management experience and two years of supervisory experience OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing and Certifications:

Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

Additional Information Knowledge of:

Sidewalk and curb ramp construction and maintenance practices
ADA and PROWAG standards for accessible pedestrian infrastructure
Infrastructure project coordination and contract oversight
Work order and asset management systems (e.g., Cityworks)
Public service and field-based communication protocols Skill in: Conducting detailed site inspections and identifying deficiencies
Writing project scopes and preparing quantity take-offs
Managing service requests, citizen responses, and program data
Using ArcGIS, Excel, and other tools to analyze and track asset information
Coordinating across teams and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Ability to: Lead sidewalk program operations with professionalism and responsiveness
Balance time between fieldwork and office-based project tracking
Communicate clearly with residents, contractors, and internal stakeholders
Make data-driven decisions to prioritize safety and accessibility
Represent the city with integrity and a commitment to service excellence

ADA and Other Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require: fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work:

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Working Conditions:

Work is routinely performed in an indoor, office environment.
