We operate with the core belief that our rural communities have inherent cultural value and are vital to the overall economic health of our state. We recognize that the changing landscape of rural North Carolina brings with it significant challenges, but we also believe in the resiliency of our state’s rural people and their dedicated stewardship of the communities they call home. The Mission The mission of the NC Rural Center is to develop, promote, and implement sound economic strategies to improve the quality of life of rural North Carolinians. They serve the state’s 78 rural counties, with a special focus on individuals with low-to-moderate incomes and communities with limited resources. Description Overview The Summer Literacy Initiative (SLI) Representative is the first point of contact for the program. The Liaison will market and promote the SLI program in local communities, specifically with churches. Additionally, the Liaison will support fundraising for the expansion of SLI to new communities, create a recruitment strategy to engage new rural faith congregations in becoming SLI host sites, and represent the NC Rural Center (NCRC) at SLI partner meetings. Duties & Responsibilities Promote and market the SLI program in the community by building relationships with community organizations. Collaborate with SLI fundraising consultant on grant applications, grant agreements, and other required documentation. Develop and coordinate with the Rural Center’s Director of Strategic Partnership, Sr. Director of Faith in Rural Communities, to establish methods to track all SLI grants awarded to NCRC. Identify, assess capacity, and support new rural faith congregations in becoming SLI host sites. This includes in-person meetings with church and community members. Represent NC Rural Center at governance, fundraising, and other meetings as needed. Schedule (in coordination with other partners) visits for potential future SLI sites.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Strong presentation/facilitation skills Proven verbal and written communication skills Marketing/sales experience a plus Attention to detail and proven experience with reporting and program compliance Education and Experience Experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree and least two years in marketing, canvassing, and promotion required. Experience working with faith-based organizations preferred

Compensation and Benefits:

NC Rural Center offers a salary range of $65K to $70K for this position, commensurate with experience.
