Job Description
The Family and Consumer Sciences Educator is responsible for teaching practical life skills in areas such as wellness, parenting and family relationships, financial literacy, consumer decision making, and other related topics. The educator fosters a supportive environment to help participants make informed decisions and build healthy relationships. The Educator collaborates with schools, human services agencies, community organizations, other staff, as well as state and local government officials. The educator solicits grants and manages funder requirements, serves on advisory boards, and works independently influencing programs for the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Albany County and its constituents. This position works as part of a team to reach stakeholders, meet program goals, and perform existing or new responsibilities which can change based on new partnerships, grant initiatives, etc. We firmly believe in work-life balance and provide generous paid time off (vacation, personal, sick, and holiday pay). Compensation is paid at the rate of $62,500 annually and includes 21 Vacation days, 14 Holidays, 3 Personal days and 12 Sick days annually. Mileage for work related travel is reimbursed. Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions Program Responsibilities:
Program Assessment and Development
- 30% + Apply subject matter knowledge to assess and develop programs, identify gaps and trends in the community, and make recommendations for improvements.
+ Develop and establish volunteer opportunities to extend the educational mission. + Maintain direct linkage with funders and Cornell University for guidance. + Ensure programs are within scope of the Plan of Work. Program Delivery, Evaluation and Applied Research
- 40% + Deliver programs on topics that include but are not limited to parenting education, financial literacy, consumer decision making, etc.
+ Provide public outreach and educational program efforts through various methods including social media, etc. + Represent CCE Albany and serve as a subject matter expert; provide responses, field questions, etc. + Serve on advisory boards, committees, and program work teams. + Create lesson plans for educational programs. + Foster acceptance of the program, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs. + Involved in multiple partner organization efforts to deliver programs. + Evaluate programs and make recommendations for improvements. + Communicate evaluation results and findings. + Interact with various constituencies to obtain their evaluation of programs. + Ensure program evaluation is within scope of the statewide Plan of Work.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Direction and Management
- 20% + Plan and manage assigned programs, budgets, and communication strategies.
+ Develop, expand, and enhance relationships for the program. + Manage assigned volunteers. + Ensure grant and funder requirements are met. + Research and apply for grants and contracts for sustained funding. + Monitor program to ensure that educational content is research knowledge based. + Assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise in the program. Coordination and Operation
- 5% + Coordinate and schedule assigned programs. + Recruit program participants. + Perform communications and marketing responsibilities
- draft standard communications, impact statements, social media posts, take photos, etc. + Maintain program records and data. + Compile program materials and inventory. + Complete all required documentation and reports in a timely manner. Professional Improvement
- 5% + In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities. + Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
