Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. Minimum 2-3 years of relevant experience in counseling or support services, especially with individuals with disabilities and their families. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to actively listen and build meaningful rapport with diverse populations. Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and commitment to helping individuals navigate life challenges. Ability to maintain professional boundaries while demonstrating cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and experiences. Experience in needs assessment, person-centered planning, and guiding consumers through complex situations. Familiarity with human service delivery systems, including program coordination and grant management. Must possess a valid driver’s license, proof of automobile insurance, and access to reliable transportation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Direct Services and Counseling Provide counseling to children, adults, couples, and families affected by epilepsy. Facilitate support groups such as Coffee and Chat and the Adult Support Group. Coordinate with art therapists and manage participant registration and promotion for Studio E Art Therapy Program. Provide short-term service coordination, advocacy, and epilepsy education in response to consumer inquiries. Serve as a liaison to the parents’ support group on Facebook 2. Program Management and Compliance Ensure agency, including regional (North Country) strategic goals are met within counseling, outreach and information/referral domains. Fulfill direct service requirements for OPWDD and Coalition grants, including intakes, assessments, follow-ups, counseling, documentation, and reporting in coordination with the Health Educator. Maintain accurate consumer records for all services provided. Ensure compliance with national standards for service delivery. 3. Program Coordination Coordinate special programs such as: o Studio E Art Therapy o Chronic Disease Self-Management Program o Kids Crew o Summer Camp Scholarships o College Scholarships o Winning Kid Program (including family liaison throughout the year) Plan and promote enrichment and recreational programs for children and adults. 4. Outreach, Marketing, and Awareness Support media engagement by identifying families for stories and social posts. Build partnerships with health and professional organizations for referrals. Maintain relationships with neurology practices and other referring agencies. 5. Education, Outreach, and Information & Referral Support outreach efforts across a 22-county region. Maintain and update a resource database in partnership with the Office Manager. Contribute to agency blogs with wellness and informational articles. 6. Organizational Support Participate in agency events, staff meetings, and trainings. Stay informed on epilepsy-related issues through literature, conferences, and professional development. Monitor and improve service delivery methods. Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Work Environment:

This position operates in an office environment with the potential to work at home once per week. Occasional travel and evening or weekend hours may be required for outreach, events, or service delivery. Use of computer workstation and other office technology. Responsible for maintaining confidentiality of all documents related to consumers.
