Position Summary:
Children’s Aid (CA) Summer Rising camp, is funded by the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). The program operates from Monday through Thursday, from 12pm-6pm and Friday, from 8am-6pm. The program offers children educational instruction, and the opportunity to engage in an array of enriching art-based activities and SEL (social-emotional learning) activities. A Facilitator is a dedicated leader responsible for supervising and engaging a group of 10-15 elementary or school-age children in educational and recreational activities. They serve as role models, fostering a positive and inclusive environment while providing tutoring in reading, writing, and math. Facilitators implement S.T.E.M. and SEL curricula, manage classroom behavior, and build strong relationships with children and their families. Their duties also include planning lessons, leading games, supervising lunch, maintaining equipment, and supporting special projects. Punctuality, responsibility, teamwork, and a positive attitude are essential, along with participation in staff meetings and trainings.
Essential Duties:
Supervise and care for a group or club of up to 10-15 elementary or school-age children.
Serve as a role model and leader, demonstrating positive behaviors and values.
Enjoy working with children, respect them as individuals, and engage them in fun, educational activities.
Provide individual and group tutoring in reading, writing, and mathematics.
Develop classroom and behavioral management skills.
Implement professionally developed S.T.E.M. and SEL curricula.
Build strong relationships with children and their families.
Design, plan, and lead special projects both within and outside the program.
Be punctual, and responsible, and maintain a positive attitude.
Encourage and support children in their learning and development.
Create lesson plans, teach, supervise, and organize games and activities.
Assist with program operations, including supervising lunch and managing equipment.
Ensure equipment is signed out, cleaned, and returned properly.
Attend regular staff meetings and trainings.
Collaborate effectively with other staff members and school personnel.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be 18 years old. High School Diploma or Equivalent
At least one year experience working with children
- tutoring or teaching is highly preferred
Available from July 1st through August 15th Key Competencies Work well in teams and in collaboration with other organizations and entities
Strong knowledge of behavior management techniques and classroom management strategies
Understanding of Youth Development Principles and the ability to educate children in an engaging, age-appropriate manner
Well organized with strong communication skills both verbal and written
Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish, oral and written)
Pursuing an Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree preferred Qualifications
