Intake Specialist – New York Position Available In New York, New York

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Intake Specialist (IS) will support the efforts of the Centralized Intake Program with a special focus on the Bronx and Manhattan. The Centralized Intake Program resides in the Justice Initiatives (JI) department in an effort to standardize our intake process for the JI programs and create a trauma-informed process for participants. The IS will do outreach, intakes, risk assessments and screenings for the Justice Initiatives programs with particular focus on outreach and intake the Abusive Partner Intervention Programs (APIP), located in NYC and Westchester. They will provide additional support to the Legal Education and Advocacy Program (LEAP), the Economic Empowerment Program (EEP), the Crime Victims Service Program (CVSP), and the People and Animals Living Safely program (PALS) as needed. Outreach and intakes will be done with potential participants that are currently residing in shelter, residing in community, or at court-based sites on each program’s need.

Salary:

$42,000-$45,000 MAJOR

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct universal intake along with risk assessments, screenings, supplemental intakes and provide referrals and resource coordination in a client-centered and trauma-informed way to support potential participant’s needs and their goals for participating in the program Partner closely with the APIP team to do outreach and intakes for their programs Schedule initial interviews, either in person or by phone directly with the participant Evaluate participant’s information against program eligibility guidelines to determine if they are eligible for services. Collaborate with the teams to ensure continuity of services across programs Provide outreach and informational sessions to service providers, court-based workers, and potential participants including at the FJCs and shelters Actively outreach to other NYC and Westchester-based non-profits and community space to create new partnerships for referrals and to support as many survivors and participants in accessing services as possible Meet weekly with Manager for supervision and perform other duties assigned by the Program Manager. Collaborate closely with other Justice Initiative program leaders and staff along with other Program’s divisions within URI Input & maintain accurate data collection in a timely fashion Collaborate in providing accurate data reporting to funders and city organizations Support program leaders in any reports for funders Other Stay up to date with innovations in the field Participate in regular staff meetings and in training Attend coalitions, taskforces, working groups and committees Other duties as requested based on department, program, and/or organizational needs

SPECIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

Bachelor’s degree in counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related human services field with at least 1 year of experience Bilingual (English/Spanish) Preferred

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE 1

year working with survivors of domestic or gender-based violence or trafficking survivors Commitment to the vision and mission of Urban Resource Institute Demonstrated passion and commitment to public interest and an understanding of trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally responsive services Have a strong understanding of the safety needs of survivors of violence Familiar with NYC public benefits and shelter systems Deeply understand strength-based and survivor-centered approaches Strong writing and public speaking skills with an ability to manage and organize multiple projects in a busy, pressured working environment Experience collaborating across programs and external sectors Demonstrate sensitivity and experience with and/or knowledge of domestic violence within and against disenfranchised communities including individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and/or HIV-affected, the elderly and individuals with mental health issues Demonstrate trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approach when working with survivors of domestic and gender-based violence Highly motivated, with the ability to work independently and in a team, assess priorities, take initiative, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines Must be able to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and cope with stress and crises in a calm manner Willingness to travel to residential and community program spaces, and community partner sites Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and Apricot

SPECIFICATIONS FOR WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position will be located in the Justice Initiatives Center, which is located in the Grand Central area, but will involve travel across the NYC area with particular focus on Westchester. This position may need to split time between the Justice Initiatives Center and the Westchester Probation office, which is located in the courthouse in White Plains. The work environment varies given work location but generally it is bright and medium in environmental noise, medium in work-pace, and high in work volume and diversity of initiatives/tasks. The work schedule includes three days working in the office or across URI program sites and two days working from home; flexibility is required to meet on-site demands throughout the week and potentially off-work hours if a crisis arises.
