Ethical Culture Fieldston School is a progressive PreK-12 independent school that has been serving students from throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs since 1878. ECFS offers a rich curriculum in the arts, sciences, and humanities. A co-ed, nonsectarian school, it serves a diverse community of about 1,700 students on two campuses — one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and the other in Manhattan. Ethical Culture School, located on the Upper West Side at 63rd Street and Central Park West, is comprised of approximately 450 students Pre-K through 5th Grade and 80 faculty members.

The Manager of After School & Auxiliary Programs plays a key role in the oversight and execution of a diverse range of offerings within the After School & Auxiliary Programs Department. This individual’s top priority is ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all children participating in the program. Reporting to the Director of After School & Auxiliary Programs, the Manager is responsible for the daily operations and long-term planning of the program in alignment with the school’s mission and guidelines. Core responsibilities include curriculum development, cultivating vendor relationships, and contributing to strategic planning initiatives.
The After School & Auxiliary Programs Department enriches the student experience at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School through dynamic offerings such as After School Programs, International Travel, Summer Camps, and a variety of Auxiliary Programs, including Driver’s Education, the Young Dancemakers Company, and Fieldston Robotics.
This role is primarily based at the Ethical Culture campus in Manhattan.
The hiring range for this position is $60,000-$75,000. When determining the salary for a position, ECFS considers factors including, but not limited to: the scope and responsibilities of the position, internal peer equity, key skills required for the role, the candidate’s work experience, education and training, as well as market and organizational considerations.
Please note that this is an onsite role and not performed remotely. Ethical Culture Fieldston School retains its right to modify job duties in accordance with changing operational needs.
Responsibilities
The Manager of After School & Auxiliary Programs responsibilities will include:

For After School Programs:

Designing and managing curriculum and daily programming for the Ethical Culture After School Program;
Promoting student enrichment, social-emotional learning, and experiential growth through engaging, age-appropriate activities;
Recruitsing, hiring, superving, and evaluating internal staff and external vendors to ensure high-quality program delivery;
Maintaining accurate records of staff hours and ensures timely submission of payroll;
Building and sustaining positive relationships with employees, students, and families to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment;
Ensuring that all equipment and materials are in good working condition and procured in advance to support smooth program operations.

For Auxiliary Programs:

Providing strategic leadership and day-to-day management for key auxiliary offerings, including the Before School Music Program, Week of Discovery Summer Camp, and Eagles’ Nest Spring Recess Camp;
Ensuring alignment of all auxiliary programming with the school’s mission, core values, and long-term Strategic and Master Plans.

General:

Developing and coordinating marketing, communication, and outreach strategies to support strong enrollment across all programs.
Managing and resolving program-related conflicts with professionalism, including implementing corrective actions as needed;
Preparing annual budget recommendations for After School & Auxiliary Programs and monitors expenditures and revenue throughout the fiscal year;
Representing the department at school-wide events and community marketing opportunities, as needed;
Upholding standards for program safety, student confidentiality, and compliance with applicable policies and regulations;
Proactively proposes new auxiliary programs to expand and enhance student engagement opportunities;
Overseeing inventory and ordering of necessary supplies, snacks, tools, and equipment to ensure seamless program execution;
Fostering positive relationships with team members and various stakeholders;
Motivating and inspiring the team and coworkers to achieve goals; and
Performing other related projects and duties as needed and assigned.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent;
A valid AHA or equivalent CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain one;
At least 2 years of previous experience working in a leadership or supervisory role in a school; Previous teaching elementary and middle school-aged children; Experience in designing and implementing curriculum, co-curricular activities, and/or extra curricular activities;
Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills to effectively communicate initiatives, facilitate discussions, and present to various levels of stakeholders; A high degree of organization, resourcefulness, and attention to detail; The ability to collaborate and build strong relationships with faculty, administrators, and the overall community; A strong ability to multitask and shift priorities without compromising on the quality of work;
The ability to identify issues quickly and problem solve accordingly, and to remain calm in stressful situations that may arise;
The ability to handle confidential materials with discretion while maintaining a high level of integrity;
A willingness to learn and embrace new ideas and procedures and a consistent initiative to help streamline processes and improve efficiencies;
A positive attitude and the ability to listen effectively and be receptive to feedback; The ability to work collaboratively in group settings, as well as independently, to meet project goals and team needs; Proficiency in utilizing and learning new technologies (i.e., Google Workspace tools); Reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance; and The ability to cultivate a welcoming culture in which all members of our community feel valued and appreciated.
